Sixth Adventure 02: The Metropolis of Holtburg Empty Sixth Adventure 02: The Metropolis of Holtburg

Post by Archengeia Tue Apr 02, 2013 4:32 am

After a slow and lengthy process, the entire group manages to make it off the ship and through the checkpoint. You find out to your shock that there is actually a second checkpoint further in, but to your immense relief this checkpoint is just a search, they don't check your Visa. The city itself is beyond explanation; it is sprawling, huge, gigantic, enormous. Those of you who have been here before can inform the others of its many Districts.

The North Docks: Where most common, commercial, and personal ships come and go. Also contains a small bit of local shops, warehouses, etc.

The South Docks: A bit of a misnomer as this is more like the 'middle' docks, this is where the larger companies and Magicite haulers land their goods. Has a fairly large section of warehouses dedicated just to itself. Most of the major companies have their own designated sections.

The Military Docks: Completely off-limits right now and very heavily patrolled. Obvious otherwise.

Royal District: Where the Nobility resides, also houses the High Castle and governmental offices. Fairly large region. Currently under complete lockdown. In normal circumstances people are allowed and even encouraged to peruse its streets and visit with representatives and officials. Also normally houses Lords from the other Provinces due to the nature of Aluvian politics.

Warehouse District: A truly massive area for storage on a macroscopic level. Actually reaches several hundred feet underground instead of up into the sky like most of Holtburg does. Heavily patrolled by private and commercial guardsmen for various interests.

Commerce District: A region of towers and skyscrapers, where most major companies either have their headquarters or at least a large office, and hundreds upon hundreds of goods of every and all types for sale, from the woman at an apple stall on the street to the elite Olthoi-silk spun scarf shop on the 40th floor of one of the mercantile towers. While the hours of each shop varies of course, the Commerce District in general never sleeps. The Hub for Holtburg is present in the Commerce District, in the middle of a large Plaza where no building is permitted to allow the Hub to continue to function.

Cid Shipyards: A District unto itself, this is the second largest Airship construction facility in the entire world, and was the location where the Levaithan was built piece by piece and then assembled in the air. The Shipyards work exclusively for Aluvian interests.

Base District: Even under normal circumstances this place is heavily patrolled and guarded. Military housing for family members of the military as well as most of the mundane facilities for keeping the local Army, Navy, and Airfleet personnel ready, trained, and equipped at all times exists herein.

Low Commons District: The 'cheap' residential area, though still expensive by most other cities' (or even Major cities') rates. The vast majority of the city lives here, and there are the occasional commercial buildings here or there to sell local and everyday goods, as well as quite a few nice home-run restaurants.

High Commons District: The 'medium' residential area, not nearly as large as the Low Commons but still the size of a city itself. Huge portions of this area are eaten up by large apartment complexes, which are usually rented out at a building level by the major companies or organizations that maintain facilities in Holtburg. It's actually not more expensive to live here than in the Low Commons, but you get far less room, privacy, or otherwise for obvious reasons.

High Wealth District: The smallest District in Holtburg by a wide margin, this is where the elite, ultra rich, and other nobility live. While the concept of 'nobility' is mostly out-dated in the modern era, the sad truth is most people who would be considered still blooded are in fact quite rich, and do everything they can to continue their private games against one another. It is also worth noting that a fair number of the high governmental officials and Lords from other Provinces maintain villas here.

The Gates: West, North, and South Gates aren't technically Districts but have whole sections of the city devoted to them to allow the smoothest possible transit for all coming or going traffic, as land-traffic is insane through Holtburg for obvious reasons. Naturally, these areas also check for Visas, given the amount of trans-continental traffic that moves through here.

Terenas Airship Docks: The public and commercial Airship docks for Holtburg, which actually sits outside the city Walls to the west of the city proper, though given the rate of expansion Holtburg has had lately it's entirely possible that may not always be true. It is here one can purchase a ride upon a passenger Airship (which only caters to a few locations and is incredibly expensive), where the commercial Airships dock, and where one may land one's own Airship if by some miracle you owned one.

Finally the Railway station is also outside the city proper, to the northwest of the Wall, and has a fairly large train yard dedicated to its existence as well as its own private section of warehouses and facilities.

It is currently February 11th, and the sun is just now setting.

upon getting though customs (if he gets though) Tab will head for the Commerce District not even looking back to see if the others made it though (for now he will just have to hope) were he will do a set of GI checks.

first GI will be on finding a good inn.

second he will be getting a news paper (thou i doubt there will be anything in there from Grimlock this quick) and doing a GI check for news on the war

third will be a general GI check to see if anything interesting has happened lately?

all the while keeping an ear and eye out for anything about the undermarket thou not asking anything about it specifically.

Tanht of Rocksalt laboriously makes his way through the Low Commons District looking for a reputable healer in need of assistance. If he finds one, he will offer his services as a healer in exchange for keeping his location confidential and a free room. He will pay for his board from his savings.
DCs if necessary:
Additionally, he is going to find a reputable bank to invest his savings and the group wealth so that he is not carrying it around or leaving it unsecured in his room.
Question about the Bank:

The sight of the large towers and sprawling city would have awed Rory, if not for the many guards. The mere heavy presence of the personnel caused him to retreat further inward. He brushed his fingers over his ears--which Tabran had changed with magic to take a more elfin shape--and scowled slightly. He kept silent and refrained from verbal or silent communication. It was fairly plain to the group that he didn't want to engage in any interaction by his own invitation for fear of being discovered.

When Zeiss suggested finding an inn, he nodded.

Spoiler:
The Outgoing Journey is fairly large, arguably the largest inn you've ever seen, with 6 stories and multiple exits on multiple stories. Bridges lead from the second, fourth, and sixth floors to adjacent buildings, one of which is a commercial tower with many businesses and eateries. It looks fairly safe and well kept, if rather contemporary, with tiled floors and the walls done in aluminum finish. Most of the people staying here seem to be tourists or travelers, of every race you've ever seen, all of whom are welcomed equally.

You are Briznan of Moonblade, an Elven apprentice blacksmith from Janwall who is returning to Holtburg after a significant sojourn in Sho lands to study their techniques.

Question about the Bank:
Even if you hire transport it will take you several hours to reach the Low Commons District. You do find several Healers throughout (the District is rather large), and one of them, a Mite White Mage named Smoir is an amiable sort and willing to help you stay though his house is rather small, built for a Mite.
There is only one Bank in all of Holtburg, though it has 3 outlets across the city, the Holtburg Hoard. They offer to keep any items safe within your personal vault for a relatively small fee.

Rooms here are a little more expensive then you are used to, at 5g a night, but not too bad. Probably due entirely to location.

Fedwaith went to walk a little before sleeping. He wanders around the streets, lost in his thoughts. He stops when he sees a pet shop with different animals in it. Curious, he walks in it and looks around. He sees some Eevee.

One of the Eevee leaps up on top of Fedwaith's shoulders and curls its long tail around the back of his neck so it can rest on his right shoulder, and starts giving a soft coo'ing sound like gentle purring.

Before heading to the inn Ashakel scoured the local markets, and decided to check in on on the local armor-smith. A beautiful bone-carved war horn caught his attention. He took it, examining it closely. "Hm.. How much for this beauty, good sir?"

Farwikt of Moonsong had no problem moving through customs having traveled to Holtburg many times before. The benefits of visiting your hometown. He took a moment to take in the sights and smells, his smile slowly widening into a full on grin. It's good to be home.

He headed for the Outgoing Journey but took a more indirect route, taking the opportunity to hit up the sea food stands along the Sailor's Walk, a street well known for it's fresh seafood at rock bottom prices (for Hotlburg).

Kolson spotted his favorite fried fish stand and immediately felt his mouth watering in anticipation. But he couldn't risk it and headed for the second best instead.

It is difficult for him to look at the young Eevee since it is on his shoulder. All the pets are roaming free around the shop. He looks uneasy. He decides to go see a clerk.

As it happens the second best fried fish stand is only a few blocks further down the way, currently swamped with hungry dock workers taking their break and enjoying the fish with all sorts of accoutrements; herbs and spices, mustard, hollandaise, chips, fries, spinach, cabbage, the works.

Spoiler:
Such a device would be custom-crafted but there are several Praxis outlets within the city, and one of the gentlemen, a tall Lord Elf with gleaming alabaster skin, is very helpful and believes that inside of a day he could have one designed just for you. He is more than willing to take the resistance amulet as payment in full, and in fact is willing to offer to have the attachment either an equippable sort of thing (attaching around the neck) or permanently grafted in (there would be no pain).

Thereafter you find a rather large pokepet facility and a familiar looking Elf rogue leaving with a purring Eevee on his shoulder. The shop is gargantuan, and free roaming for the most part, so making your way through is an effort as you dodge the creatures running and playing. You find a section where they have several Charmanders for adoption, including a little baby one that can't be older than a few months, one that looks like it was recently dropped off and is not as active as the others, and one that is playing with a young Squirtle, probably a few years old.
