Who looks after the manpower we have?

Post by Permeus (tabran) on Sun Apr 28, 2013 12:43 pm

who looks after the manpower we have?

so at some point soon we will have some manpower to play with, and im thinking it would be best if some party members deal with specific types of skilled people, this doesn't mean they cant use the people for other divisions just that there skill sets or back-story seam to make them better suited to working with a certain set of people.

information agents: threes are the Spy's, information gatherers envoys, diplomats and scouts and in most cases will be the first people we send out to meet new members of the Exchange and the ones keeping an eye out for people that may want to do business with the exchange before they are sent off to meet with the buyers or sellers.

security: almost any agent we send out into the field will need to be protected from a bodyguard for an envoy, a team of guards for a caravan to a full team sent to guard the safety of a dig team.

Administration: Accounting and banking, making sure we have permits were needed and making sure that money is going were it need to get people paid also making sure that people are were they need to be no point in having 30 people on a dig team if we only need 28 there.

Trade: the buyers, the sellers, the crafters and the people that move the goods to were they need to be remember the Exchange doesn't just deal in illegal goods a lot of it is raw goods to me made into other things, like buying the wood and sliver from Ritholme is most likely done above bored though a cover business then sent to the people that need it in the Veil to make the under the counter goods.

research: archaeologist, Researchers and designers. threes are the teams we send out to do Digs at sights we find like the place we found the Laycite or study artefacts we find like the rings and the weapons the attackers used at Janwall or do studying in the library to find more information on the watcher or Vyeotian. Now personally i don't see any of us with the skills or back-story to run this one like the others, i mean Tab is a spy so looking after other spy's is fitting and Fier is a soldier so looking after people that's job is to protect also fits but non of us are archaeologist, Researchers or designers, you could lump crafters in this but i feel there better suited in the trade side. so i think this one is a group thing that we use as and when.

so he is how i see it working.

names with an (L) next to them are people that are taking the Leadership feat at level 6 or at lest thinking of it.
Tabran (L) - information agents,
Zeiss (L) - information agents, Administration
Kolson (L) - Administration, Trade
Gwydo (L) - security
Rory - security
Z - information agents
Snarg - information agents
Fiernaceal - security
Javan - security

so this leaves me personally with 4 members of our group that i don't know about what you may want to do? so the question to Sethos, Caladrius, Hanuel and Ashakel is twofold 1# do you care about looking after any of the manpower and 2# were would your character feel is best for them?

them 2 questions go for all the team too if you don't want to look after division or you feel that you would be better at looking after a different one or two then post away.

Being a Paladin, Gwydo would be well suited for either Security OR Research. Unless someone else wants to take either, I could volunteer for one or both.
Limited time online though
Spoiler:
Considering you guys mainly play between 6pm and 2am and my alarm goes off at 1am.
would mean that you would have to allow for late postings about instructions and directions to those groups as necessary.

Since we don't know what is the backstory of Z, I think she might be fit for the Research division. In any case, it would be best to ask her.

As for Zeiss, I agree with you Tabran. He is fit for taking care of the Intelligence division and the Administration. But his friend Sareth is coming soon to Holtburg (if there isn't any problem), and he would be able to work in the Intelligence division. He is likely to train more Agents, to teach them how to be stealthy and deceitful. In that case, Zeiss would focus on the Administration.

But he could help in the Intelligence division when needed.

at the min im thinking ied like to keep Alts out of it unless a division is undermaned.

ied like each division to have 3 party members running it, that way it wont be long before they get orders.

my alt Kreeg can help if the Trade side is undermanned as he's the captain of an airship and a trader, i planed for him to be used behind the scenes maybe giving us some names of captains that may be willing to work for us or talking to them but if we are undermanned in trade or Administration he can be used.

Well, I am thinking of getting Sareth into the Exchange, so that it makes sense for me to play him if Zeiss is killed (or worse). Though I don't think we should make him one of the leader.

At most, he would work in middle management.

Z has extensive history with the undermarket she has been working with it nearly her entire life. This being said she would likely be suited to a managing possition in just about any field.

Something for everyone to bear in mind a manager does not have to be skilled in a particular trade in order to manage people in that trade. If your character for in character reasons doesn't want to deal with a certain field or group of people then don't. And that goes the opposite way to, if your character is super curious about something don't let a lack of history in that field dissuade you from managing it

What Z said made me think. Zeiss knows a lot about engineering. He could also work in the Research division.

Well, he will probably dabble in a lot of divisions if needed, but put the Administration as his priority.

I don't think Ashakel would have an interest in looking after the manpower. However, if it comes to it, I guess security is the only possible option.

As Ashakel points out players don't necessarily have to take direct roles in managing the Exchange (I imagine Rory would have no real interest either, the player). I mean this both from an in and out of character perspective; I'm quite pleased with how the Exchange is coming along and I believe several players are excited about the possibilities but that's not necessarily fun for everyone and if someone doesn't want to engage in it they don't have to. Just my two cents.

that's why i asked the 2 questions at the end of my first post. its like in assassin's creed some people like the managing the assassin brotherhood bit while some think it gets in the way of the game.
