Getting an airship crew

We've got a couple of options to choose from, although the main ones I see are these: try to get a crew in Holtburg or try to get one from Osteth. I know that Kolson could potentially have some contacts as well, so we'll see how that turns out. Personally, Osteth would be the go-to people for this. They have more experience with larger airships.

Magitek engineers, Helmsmen and/or Navigators, Lookouts, and Deckhands. With such a large ship we will also need other functions, although I'm hoping that once we can get a captain, he/she will assist in filling out the rest of the crew if they do not already bring their own.

Recommend to get on this ASAP. Transportation is really becoming a big issue. Snarg will try to do so, although may be leaving in a couple days depending on a certain letter's response.

I hired a captain for that ship venture. If we follow up on Janwall we may be able to learn what came of her and rescue her if she is in trouble.

Sure, but do you think she's up for captaining an airship? From what I understand that's a completely different matter than a water vessel.

That is true. But maybe she could help as a first mate or other officer and maybe have contacts of her own that could help.

When it comes to getting a captain, I think one of us who has experience in leadership roles should be the one to command the crew. I would vote for Kolson, but he is trying to find someone else. Snarg used to be second-in-command of the Wildpaw tribe, but I doubt he has much experience in the subject out at sea. Having a base knowledge of how ships work and how to fight a naval battle would be preferred.

Technically not second-in-command by a longshot, but I'm sure he's glad you think so. Razz

Someone who is experienced with airships, specifically large magicite ones, would probably be the best bet. I really wouldn't want to entrust the command of a ship to someone who has never even captained an airship before. Even if they've sailed just a bit before, that would be like telling someone they are now the captain of a military aircraft carrier after they've spent some time as head of a small fishing boat. I don't know of anyone in the party who really fits the bill as far as a captaining a large airship. Other roles in the airship, maybe, but not captain. This should be someone who we defer to for airship matters, someone experienced, although we're ultimately the ones making sure they're paid. We're going to be taking this in to combat more than likely, so having someone who can control it and the crew is not something we want to take any chances on.

Again, I'll say that the Lugians are probably the best bet for this if we're looking for the best fit, since they've already got experience working with large airships and they're good at that stuff in general. Anyone we pick is probably not going to have seen something exactly like this, but it'll help if they already know how to handle a big boat.

As far as Javan is concerned, the captain we find must have a big white beard, always wear this awesome captain cap, and be strict and awesome at the same time, and come up with radical ideas that end up working in the end.

Oh, and he must shout on the top of his lungs each time he orders a weapon to be fired.

I agree with recruiting from Osteth. And what's Tylor's clan name?

I do have a specific question about the ships document. On an airship with fully-efficient plumbing, I gotta ask: where does "it" all go?

I find it amusing that you bother to ask.  Depends on the type of ship, of course, but the Magicite ships and Airships pulverize it into raw magic, same as most cities do, to be re-utilized.

Unless it's our ship, or any of the secret ships being kept secret by the Coordinate(or the Dericost!), no, they don't have any weapons. Dereth's only known airships are luxury aerial cruises. Glorified tin can target practice.

No clan, just a reference to a favorite anime character of mine. He once destroyed an entire enemy fleet, commanded by a well regarded admiral no less, simply by running away and superior dumb luck.

I strongly suggest that we pay a crew from Osteth. We need the best for the Skyclaw, and also the most trustworthy.
