So listen, I've been thinking, and I realize I've been making a bigger issue out of it than it should be. I was wound too tight, and I needed to loosen up. So if you'll still have me, I'll drop the specific stuff from my origin and change one of my advantages to something different(that part is just to reflect the change). Whaddaya say? Are we square?

Okay. I posted that one advantage in the wrong thread, but it was pretty redundant. Anyway, I'm posting a better suggestion here.

Passionate Tinkerer(4)
Davion loves putting more time and effort into a better quality product or maintenance. The more time he spends working on something, the better the results. Whatever it is he's fixing or making could even be above standard quality/performance when he's finished with it.

If Davion chooses to spend extra time on repairing something or building something, the end result functions marginally to significantly better. He could choose to make it more compact, lighter, more accurate, more powerful, more efficient, more aerodynamic, etc. The options change depending on what it is he's working on. It's no wonder he was selected as a candidate to join the best of the best.

The player can put more points into this Advantage to a limit specified by the GM.

Every rule still counts: if you remove a point from another trait, you can make it a +5 advantage, the max for new character.

Which reminds me... Kolson, your character has a 6 on piloting for some reason. Go fix that bro.

OK. I will change the sheet I originally put up to reflect the new advantage&trait values. To sum up, I removed Physics and put those points into Athletics, then took one point from Athletics and put it into Passionate Tinkerer for 5. New values: Physics gone, Athletics 3, Mediator(4) replaced with Tinkerer(5).

And I changed his name too. It's cooler now.

Is there a dress code for noncombat personnel? I didn't go through any basic training like a soldier would.

I have also updated Noncombat Personnel Regimen. I have provided categories for the extent of Greenlaw's proficiency with all weapons:
Proficient: No penalty from using weapon, normal advantages, bonuses etc. apply.
Catch-All: Essentially what the GM defined early on.
Excluded: Everything the skill does NOT provide proficiency or catch-all for.

Non-combat Personnel Regimen Description: You’ve gone through a couple routine weapon firing and maintenance drills and some basic close combat drills, but you sure as hell aren’t combat-ready. They pay you to fix ships, not fight wars.
Weapon proficiencies: pistols(firing mechanisms applicable are, including but not limited to: manual, semi-auto, burst-fire, automatic), unarmed, and improvised weapons.
Catch-All: Light infantry firearms
Excluded: Heavy infantry firearms; assault rifles; anything with burst-fire or automatic firing settings, the moment they are switched to said settings--must be turned off to be returned to catch-all status; shotguns; and scoped rifles. Improvised weaponry(i.e. nothing with significant recoil) is exempt from this exclusion.

When in doubt, it is up to the GM to decide what is "light" and what is "heavy".

@Arch: More dakka does not work unless you are an orc, and Fax is not one last time I checked. Plus, he's a pilot anyway. But I'm not all that evil, so...

@Rory: Everyone in the Terran Society, once reaching 18 years old, has to become part of the military for a minimal period of 3 years before they can decide to return to the 'civilian' part of society. There are exceptions, of course, but even then, it's still a 3 month crash course and all kinds of training. Your character could have gone through the 3 month course and simply never practiced on the stuff he has taught, which is quite common for the civilian population.

Also, since you joined the Zephyr, you are going to get a Zephyr uniform instead, just an engineering-minded one. I'd still trying to find a picture that illustrates them well. I still have the time, after all.

Ok. I went through a 3-month course and from that point refreshed on a less-than-regular basis with civilian-preferred firearms, and change it to "Selective Civilian Combat"

From what Javan told me on Vent earlier this week, the idea seems to be removing as much math as possible, that being things like variable damage, damage dice, fine-print statistics, etc.

I'm not quite sure myself, I blame the accent.

I blame my accent too.

Anyway, while having a weapon that rips through shields or another that sucks against them is the difference between having an edge or not on a roll, in the end, the roleplay aspect is more important and might override the necessity for me to roll at all, for good or for worse.
