Transition Stuff
Alright, let's decide some stuff.
The original plan, as outlined by Aro, was:
1. Meet back at the palace for dinner.
2. After dinner (roughly between 7 and 8 pm) meet at the palace shuttle port where a shuttle and escort would be waiting.
The escort would consist of 4 palace guards; a caamasi captain and 3 security droids.
To keep up the pretense of provincial tour, Aro would accompany the party, waiting with the escort for you guys to check out the abandoned Jedi Temple which was conveniently along the route to the cover village Aro arranged to visit (for the record the village is named Way'din).
Unfortunately, you guys will need to leave much sooner than that while arousing the minimal amount of suspicion.
Questions? Ideas?

We're in a cab taking us to the palace shuttle port. Aro should come with to use his authority to hurry the shuttle prep. Who are the Persuasion players?
I will make Tactics check to give the cab driver directions in order to avoid arousing suspicion in any law enforcement agents or spies still looking for us. Result is 29.

If there's a mechanical issue with the shuttle, I could try to help solve the problem.

Re: Transition Stuff
Alright, your directions add time to the cab trip and earn you a raised eyebrow from the driver, but he, for the most part, complies without complaint. The only exception is when he detours to drop off his other fare. Apparently the three were going to the same office building. Nothing you can do about that.
You guys arrive at the the bridge to the palace at 5:47pm. The hustle and bustle of bureaucrats and supplicants goes almost 24 hours these days, what with the crisis and all, and it's easy for you guys to get lost in the crowd. Security keeps a watchful eye on those coming and going but no security check point exists for this part of the palace. The caamasi are a peaceful people, and rarely have crime or security problems.
You are now in the grand hallway.
Aro, who has been silent this whole walk, has steadily gained confidence as you all got further and further into familiar territory; his walk has become more confident and he's stopped muttering "Dear, oh dear" to himself. In fact, he stops and says, "Excuse me, friends. But I really need to make a report to the First Speaker before I do anything else. Please, go to your rooms and wash up. I'm afraid we stand out terribly with the mess of--he leans in and whispers--battle."

"He is right. Even as we speak, it is a surprise none of the locals have rubbernecked and made a circle around us. We may need to make an effort to mask what lingers after proper washing. Give us a rendezvous point, and we'll meet up there within half an hour."
He turned a stiff gaze toward Ominae, saying, "Take only as much time as you need," then passed an insinuatory glance at Dake Sken before continuing. "Aro, be wary. I know the Speaker will believe you, I truly do; however, the ambushers and the agent who followed us had powerful and well-connected friends. Forward thinking and caution are at their most vital at the present moment, even among familiar surroundings."

- I am making a Persuasion check +1. Result is 20. I am trying to convince Aro to be cautious even among the other governing officials, factor in their actions and responses in his dealings with them, and plan around them(suspicion of being lied to by Caamasi not included).

Zeiss, Vahrran was giving you that look to get help convincing Aro to be careful if he won't listen.
We can't send anyone to follow him, we're just going to have to wash up and try to mask our scent with whatever oils and colognes are available.
Kolson, I would like to create makeshift *hand* bandages to cover my whole hands, with the most appropriate materials I can find in privacy. I would also like to know if there are any spare clothes where we wash up. Hopefully the head cloak I bought won't be too suspicious. Even more hopefully, there will be a passable replacement among the spare clothes if there are any.

Dake took a look at his slightly ragged clothes. Having just bought his new trench coat and his hat, he didn't think he really needed a shower.
"I guess a little break would be nice... I also need to check up on my new friends."
He was obviously talking about the insects he recently caught.

- Can do Rory. If you use a knife, you can cut up the clothing provided in your room. This will give you a +2 circumstance bonus to Deception checks to pass as someone not Chiss. You also find a hooded cloak. You are not sure how practical it would be but it will provide you with the desired effect. Once you have your disguise together, go ahead and take 20 on the check. That will be the target number (or defense, if you will) an NPC has to hit to see through your disguise. For future reference please note that number so that if I ask you for it you have it readily available.
Aro nods at Vahrran's warning. "I'll be careful. As for a rendezvous, meet me in the garden on subsection 2. You'll need my clearance to go any further down."
The lanky bureaucrat is about to leave on his errand. If you have anything else to ask him now's the time.

Re: Transition Stuff
- Mental Math:
- I need to outline Ominae's reasoning here as much as i can, so it won't come off as metagaming when i implement it.
Ominae originally blames himself for bringing down the heat on the party from the Bothans, since in his mind, it was him revealing his identity to the Prime Speaker that got the spy network interested in them to begin with. Some things don't immediately add up to that, though.
Even considering they'd just infer a Jedi presence would immediately be connected to their objective, things had been suspiciously convenient even before that. Even if they'd had possibly identified him as soon as he'd stepped out of the ship, there's no way they could've known about him before the ship touched down. Namely, when a full-blown Star Destroyer sent a measly two fighters to try and stop them from making contact with a World the Empire had essentially been keeping under total blackout from the rest of the Galaxy so far.
But how could they have known we'd be coming here to take care of this artifact business before even we did? One might think they'd have had spies in Starforge who'd have somehow pegged Ominae as a Jedi and, hearing about this supply run, arranged to let it go by largely unimpeded to see if they'd get lucky, but... It's too farfetched, and somehow feels way off. Especially when there's a more logical explanation right around the corner. Ominae had at first been so cautious of Korra and Jim, maybe he shouldn't have been so quick to drop his guard.
They were the ones who had this mission arranged to begin with. Fact-finding is all well and good, and Ominae is certainly driven to save these people, but once again he's been so focused on what's in front of him, he's forgotten to mind his surroundings. If Korra had just been on some diplomatic investigation of Caamasi, the Empire would have just stopped her cold as soon as they'd found out, but they let her swim. Heck, they practically opened the door for her, and were content to let her on her merry way so long as they could keep eavesdropping.
And then, there's the sudden interest in visiting the Jedi Temple, not to mention the knowledge on Visions. It's all suddenly unable to pass for coincidence anymore.
As much as this rocks his perspective on things, there's one thing that gets Ominae more than anything. Just how serious is Korra about helping these people at all.
And on that note...
Ominae approaches Aro and speaks in a semi-hushed tone.
"Aro, under the circumstances, i figure best to talk about this sooner rather than later. I think now, more than ever, we'll need all the material we can in order to reinforce your case to the Senate. If you can't arrange for actual diplomatic presence to accompany us offworld, could you at least get us all the recorded data you can on the events since the Imperial blockade started? We'll back it up with our ship's own sensor logs and make it as air-tight as possible, so we can limit how much the Imperials will be able to stall or argue it away."

"Yes, how is that coming along?" adds Korra, the barest hint of annoyance in her voice. "Surely your techs were able to repair the problem by now, yes? What was it again?"
"Melted hard d-d-drive," Aro stutters nervously. He suddenly looks like he really doesn't want to be here answering her question. "Please don't worry. I will go and collect the data myself as soon as I'm done briefing the First Speaker."

".............?"
- Thoughts:
- Ok, this is weird. It's nice to see Korra invested (heck i didn't even know/remember she'd asked for that already), but Aro just now got a bit suspicious. I mean, a melted hard drive? Since when is that an excuse? I have a hard time believing the Caamasi government's been storing world-wide vital information in some home PC. I don't want to think this, but even for spymasters, those Bothans were very well-placed this morning, almost like they knew our schedule.
- Action:
- I'm searching the Force for insight on what's going on here. Is there more to Aro than meets the eye? Could he be working against us?

Re: Transition Stuff
- oh, crap:
- I, uh.... yeah this a problem. We can't confront him directly here, and ideally we shouldn't confront him, period. But we also can't let him go and get back to his contact and screw us over AGAIN. And we don't have the equipment to do the kind of counter-intelligence we need to do in order to find out his plans, and eventually expose him. Even if our word would carry enough weight with the Prime Speaker, there's still the matter of actually getting to him without arousing suspicion.
Kolson, i know it's a long shot, but would those spy-cams we got be able to pick up audio too? I'm guessing no, but we're gonna have to make do with what we have right now.
I'm also considering mind-trick, but if i fail the check, it's game over. I don't get the feeling Aro's got that much of a will defense, though, if it comes to it.
Anyway, once Aro turns his back, Ominae is gonna give Korra THAT look. You know, the "he's up to no good, and he's probably on his way to sabotage us right now" look.
The more i think about it, the more i think we can't afford to let him out of our sight right now. I'll set up some excuse as to why he should accompany us to our quarters, or something (i've a pretty good idea of what to say). Once Aro's not looking, i'll motion to Vahrran and Dake to play along with what i say. I don't want to resort to mind-trick just yet.
- OOC:
- EDIT: The motioning to you guys isn't just roleplay. i'm actually waiting for you two to sign off on this.

Re: Transition Stuff
Ominae steps close to Aro and speaks in a hushed tone, since this is sensitive information.
"The rest of us will be in our quarters. We're going to try and salvage what we can from the memory core of that transmitter Vahrran dug out of the spy. With any luck, we can get a callback frequency out of it, and go about setting up a trace or something, and find out just who's been trying to sabotage us all this time."

- setting up reaction:
- How i say my next line will depend on Aro's reaction to this. If he's cool with it, i'll say it almost immediately without missing more than a beat. If he gets uptight, i'll let him sweat it a bit before suggesting. The ideal scenario would be for him to suggest it himself, which would arouse the least suspicion on his part. Mind trick will be a very last resort if i see i won't be able to steer this the right way, but i'll explicitly write it if i decide to do it.
"Why don't you come with us? It shouldn't take long to see if the frequency is still salvageable, and if it is, you can take it directly to the Prime Speaker. He'd have better resources than us to run something like a trace, i'm sure. I know i'd feel a lot better, knowing it's in his hands."

All three of you notice Aro move something to his hand.
Dake and Vahrran are not sure what it is but both are experienced enough to know that it is probably nothing good. Think of it as your survival instincts kicking in.
As for Ominae, you saw that it was a small blaster of some kind. It popped out of a hidden holster in the sleeve of his robes.
So, to summarize, Aro is currently trying to walk away from this confrontation in the middle of a crowded room holding a blaster. What you decide to do about that may determine the fates of the party, the Caamasi Security guards, and the numerous innocent bureaucrats and civilians going about their business in this Grand Hall.
What do you guys do?

Re: Transition Stuff

- I'm actually relieved it's a blaster. If it was some kind of transmitter, then i'd really be worried. Not that this bodes any kind of favorably, considering the surroundings. We could let him walk away and tail him, letting him get to a more isolated place that we can subdue him more safely, but there's no guarantee we'll get that chance. He might spot us and loose us or start a fight, and there's no guarantee he'll actually get to a place that'll give us the advantage.
Under the circumstances, i think the best course of action is to use mindtrick and subdue him without a fuss. I don't really take him for the stalwart type, or i don't think he'd have ever screwed up as badly and lost his cool as he just did. I could always be wrong, but either way this is no place to get into a fight, and we can't afford to lose him or let him out of our sight.
If you guys agree, i'm going ahead with it.

Zeiss, your character probably knows how I operate, and that I've never been the negotiator in hostage situations for a reason(not saying that it's the same here, but just to give you the gist of how Vahrran tends to handle this sort of situation), so you would probably know if whatever I say is doomed from the start, being good at Persuasion and all.
So if I botch this roll, you could whisper a heads-up to K, which would allow K to use the Mindtrick trump card to save the ship before my plan blows it out of the water. If it's alright with Kolson, just follow my lead.
Is that okay, Kolson?

- Rory, he's holding a blaster in the middle of the Grand Hall. I think he's desperate, and certainly about ready to snap. And if he does, we'll have a whole bigger problem on our hands.
Kolson, can i set up Mindtrick as a reactionary if he does any sudden move?
The way i see it, the only thing keeping him from raising that blaster is the off-chance that we're not actually on to him yet (along with the surroundings, but it hasn't stopped him from drawing it, so yeah). If we show our hand, i don't think there'll be anything stopping him from going into full despair mode. I don't think he's in any kind of state we can negotiate with. On the other hand, his lack of cool shows a likely lack of mental discipline, thus mind-trick. I advise against trying to negotiate with him here and now.
If you MUST, then i at least need to know i can stop him cold with mind-trick before he so much as twitches.

Re: Transition Stuff
- ooc:
- So, i'm trying to get my head around all that's happened. Once my 28 Mindtrick failed on Aro, i made a lot of assumptions. Namely, that he had staged his little slip-up in order to get caught, which made zero sense to me at the time. If he wanted to get close to the Prime Speaker, i pretty much gave him the chance with my little bluff about the Bothan transmitter. Knowing what i know now, he'd have known it was a trap from a mile away, since he has to be a lot more knowledgeable about that sort of thing than i originally gave him credit for. If we assume he knew he was screwed then and there, it all makes a ton more sense to me. From that point on, he knew he wasn't going to be able to get close to the Prime Speaker anymore, so he pulled the blaster. The question left to me is what more could he want from the prime speaker, after all the times he'd been given access to his office, and all the information he'd already been privy to (which will all need to be updated and changed, now that we know it's been compromised). The only logical answer, backed by the fact he was carrying an embedded stabbing weapon, is his life. Makes sense, that the only move left to him now was to kill the Prime Speaker and throw the government into disarray. What still bothers me is his eery impenetrable façade in the Throne Room, in contrast to his clumsiness back at the Grand Hall. I guess he IS a droid, but i can't shake the feeling the guy at the throne room could have talked his way out of that tight spot back at the grand hall. I'm guessing he couldn't have predicted we'd have suddenly come out with that line of questioning about the recorded data, but still, something just feels off.
I'll check with the Force, to see if there's anything i'm missing.

Your mind drifts towards the abandoned Jedi Temple, the one you are currently not at. By the way, the Dark Side is growing stronger from that direction. It's starting to give you a mild headache.
At the completion of the battle, the scene in the throne room has since died down to a quiet waiting while the technicians do their work downstairs. Upon arriving they loaded up the droid spy and took it away in all haste. Anyone who wishes can follow along.
Possible Location: Technician's Workshop
NPCs
Captain Kan'atu is currently down there watching them work.
Head Technician Harahiki-Caamasi engineer. Older woman, with graying fur.
Height 1.70688 meters (5'6"), 53.9775 kg (119 lbs.)
Currently examining Robo Aro.
Back in the Throne Room, the First Speaker is holding an emergency meeting with his council trying to figure out what damage the spy may have wrought and what to do about it. Korra is currently there looking out the window in the direction of the Temple. She looks unsettled. Jim is leaning up against the wall nonchalantly though anyone who knows him can see he is coiled like a giant spring, ready to protect his charge at a moments notice.

Meanwhile, elsewhere...
Harley and Glitch have stolen a forklift from a group of ornery mechanics that work at the starport. They are in hot pursuit of Boop, which has managed to climb it's way into a delivery cart bound for parts unknown. The driver of the cart, for his part, is confused and scared and is currently travelling at unsafe speeds down a major thoroughfare. Meanwhile, the enslaved R2's are doing everything they can to keep the fuzz (security) off their chief (Glitch), including, but not limited to, hacking the power grid, causing convenient traffic snarls, and ramming pedestrians out of the way.
All in all, it's a confusing, zany, and all around stupid chase and is currently being covered on the local news as a way to break up the tedium of 24/5 blockade coverage. I'll keep you guys posted as the story develops. And yes, Glitch is copiously whining about how illegal it all is.

The droid in disguise had become a pile of scrap and Dake was more than relieved to see that danger had passed, for now. Like the experienced and mature smuggler he was, he quickly showed his pride at the efficiency of his intervention which was obviously determinant in this present outcome.
"Now, that's what I call a headshot."
The attention he brought to the remnants of the droid indicated how curious he was to learn more from it. But just as he had decided to tag along with the technicians, he caught Korah from the corner of his eyes. She was looking outside a window. For a few moments, Dake hesitated. And after seemingly resigning himself, he walked up next to her.
"...Hey."
He noticed that she was looking in the direction of the Temple.
