Re: On the edge of chaos
Don't worry, I'll be careful with that. I noticed we're not getting that much money, but that access to the Hub makes up for that.
Please Arch, don't destroy the Hubs? *ME3 flashbacks*

So, we've jumped a full day all of a sudden. Weren't we gonna stop the coup against Lightmane?

Well you guys weren't posting in the 17th thread so I just decided to bump you ahead a day. Zeiss was occupied the entire time anyways, and Higaide was traveling.

Re: On the edge of chaos
Well, maybe it was just me, but i was under the impression that thread was just for Javan and Kolson. I mean, it gets kinda confusing when there's two separate days running side by side, i thought we'd get some kinda cue for unfolding events - for my part, i had posted my action and there was little else i could get done but walk. I expected not to make it back to Holtburg on the 16th, but a whole 24 hours of idleness when a coup is in the works?
I mean, if Rory and Zeiss are good with this, i guess that's that, but seems unlikely we'd just be sitting around for the next entire day. Guys?

I was negotiating for the Leycite so I would get the money to hire mercenaries.

Re: On the edge of chaos
Right. Sorry, i keep forgetting we can do that too. Forget i said anything.
PS.: Just so you don't think i'm a retard or something, i usually wait for a GM prompt that i finished my action before i post the next one, so i don't go rapid-firing actions faster than the game or the other characters progress. So, since i hadn't gotten any "Higaide reaches Holtburg" kinda line, i didn't consider it to be my turn. Not all the time, of course, but it was kind of a long walk, and i had exhautsed my major actions. I'm not saying this is how it should be, just how i'd been thinking it was. That's why i hadn't posted.

Re: On the edge of chaos
Do you guys have any ideas for how to approach the bandit camp? I mean, I still want to scout it out before making any decisions but I'm not seeing a lot of options here besides march up in force and demand to speak to this Lefftenant fellow and keeping my main force back while Javan and I, with a small escort, make our way forward under a banner of peace and ask to meet with Lefftenant.
I don't want to get us killed but at the same time I don't want the bandits jumping to conclusions and assuming ill intent on our part before we even get a chance to talk.

Re: On the edge of chaos
Do i understand it correctly when i say most of these guys are conscripted, and haven't much in the way of conviction in what they're doing?
If that's the case, i think you'll have a pretty good chance of breaking their discipline if you manage to neutralize their leader(s). If you run a flag of truce, and manage to either talk their guy down, of take him down by force, the rest of them might fall apart. Of course, if they don't, you and Javan will be right in the middle of their camp, surrounded by hostiles.
You could sneak your forces into position as you talk with the bandit leadership, but that depends on the terrain and your people's skill and discipline. If they're discovered prematurely, things could get bad.
Alternatively, if you feel like their level of discontent is bad enough, you could just try to get on a big box and address them collectively, and convince them that they stand more to gain by joining you than fighting you, since it'd be pretty bloody if you did, and a lot of people would die, for something they're not all that excited about to begin with.

I think talking to them first is a good idea. If the leader attacks you, you can easily intimidate other people with your spells. I think they just want someone looking out for them.

Yes, that's the impression I'm getting. I wouldn't go so far as to say all of them find their methods distasteful but I think most of them would jump at a real alternative to their current situation. I'm hoping we can do that and that I can convince them of it.

Re: On the edge of chaos
So, soon as the Zeiss comes back from his business trip, we're stopping a coup, right? I'm letting my lieutenant think i'm a moron, cause i don't want to tell her the real reason why i want to stick around for another day or two (she might freak out, for all i know).
That, and i'm not too sure what my actions will be in the meantime.

Re: On the edge of chaos
Well, I was going to buy something that let me get a full rest for an hour of sleep (like Rory) because I'm super tired right now. And we still need to get some mercenaries. After that, I might take a horse to pay a little visit to Radnaal while I leave Advoc behind to hire some mercenaries. Of course, I doubt people would accept to deal with an Aspect, so if one of you were willing to do that, that would help.
Unless you two want me to drop the Radnaal thing. We still have to see if Gretta answered to my letter.

Re: On the edge of chaos
Depends on whether you think you can say something to him that'll convince him past what i already tried. Btw, your character doesn't know i failed to bring him back, at least until he comes back to base. Honestly, i think Zeiss speaks Gretta's language better than Radnaal's (i could be wrong, it's just the feeling i get).
As for hiring mercenaries, i can give it a shot, thought maybe that's more Rory's specialty than mine (do-gooder monk hiring mercs...). At the very least i can back him up, though i'll try to keep Jenna and the rest of my crew from finding out. If at all possible, i'd like to outfit them for the trip to Glenden as soon as we get any money, and send them off as we go to battle, so they won't get involved (though that may be a mistake too... decisions).
You might wanna just borrow the Ring from Rory. Not like we won't be needing Thog's help in the near future.

Nah, I intended to buy myself something like that sooner or later. I also figured you were going to tell me, off-camera, what happened with Radnaal once I come back from the meeting with the Mites. Also, when we get confirmation that the deal is done, I'll give you guys your shares: 5 pieces of plat and 1000 pieces of gold each. I'll keep on the rest until we meet Kolson and Javan again.

What? I don't wanna stop the coup, I want to win it. i wanna beat the bad guys. I'm sitting on an eight-foot organic wrecking ball with a brain, I'm sad I haven't had a reason to use it yet.

Re: On the edge of chaos
Wait, Rory, you wanna be the Lord of Holtburg?
Anyway, Zeiss, while for my part i'm flattered that you'd split this even between all of us, i think the wisest thing is probably to put it in a fund. I mean, the exchange needs something like that to keep running, right?
All i'm worried about, though, is time (well, and numbers). The longer we wait, the longer those fake military guys have to put their plan into action. Remember what happened that one time in Al-Erat when instead of going right after Harkun we decided to stop for lunch? Yeah.

Re: On the edge of chaos
I think Rory wants us to play the kingmakers.
As for the money, I know Kolson was planning to put it in the Exchange's "treasury". I don't know about Javan, but I think he would be okay with this, especially since he still has thousands pieces of gold in his possession. Last I heard anyway. It all depends on Rory and whether he wants a share.
About the coup d'État: I am also worried but we can't really enter the Royal District with the intention of removing the ones in power without any soldiers to back us up. Which is why I am so adamant on getting Radnaal to help us. I imagine a lot of people would rally to us if he was here.

'Course I want a share. I assumed the coup involved some guys who know about us and want us out of the picture, the intention of getting involved being 'we want Sareth back' and 'no, we're not going anywhere'.

Re: On the edge of chaos
In this case, I'm taking your share out of the group's funds Rory. These 5 pieces of plat and 1000 pieces of gold are now yours and yours only. Please keep track of it.
I just don't know what to assume about the usurpers. If we can't get enough people to attack the Royal District, we might have to make do with rescuing Sareth and nothing else. Either way, we're most likely going to end up dead. I'm okay with it. I just hope you guys are also aware of that very probable possibility.
