Post by Snarg of Wildpaw Fri Dec 27, 2013 2:30 pm

Since we all seem to be posting a lot of our favorite pieces of music lately, maybe we should have a thread specifically for that. Just post up something that you're listening to and would like to share.

I'll start with a track I've been listening to for the past few days. I quite enjoy instrumental music like this, so Really Slow Motion, Two Steps from Hell, Brand X, etc, all have tracks I regularly listen to. A lot of this music is created for motion pictures, so you may have heard some of it in movie trailers.

Without further ado:

This thread is a good idea.

As for me, I have a thing for slow music with a hint of sadness. So here's what I have been listening to for some time now :

You can't embed stuff from Newgrounds, so you're just gonna have to trust what I say about the links.

Not listing title. Else you be suspicious. Why so suspicious??

This one is "Endings and Beginnings" and has been a source of inspiration for me lately.
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/517906

That's an original piece by a Dan Johansen on Newgrounds and his albums are available for free listening on Newgrounds, or purchase online. If you just wanna listen for free though, the songs aren't uploaded in any order. They are listed on CDBaby.com as follows:

1. Cuintha
2. Magic Cloud Sea
3. Three Moons
4. Flying Moon Creature
5. Fortuna Plains
6. Adventua
7. Tirque
8. Lake of Viridia
9. Floating Island Githrau
10. The Raining Cave
11. Desert of Souls
12. Glass Walls
13. Ghost Wolf Thirio
14. Endings and Beginnings

Usually, I have one 'favored' song that I loop for most of the day, listening to something else one time or another, then getting back to it, and it stays like that for a week or two.

This is my current one.

I've never been quiet about the fact that music is a really important facet of my life and personality.  So I thought I'd be honest rather than flippant and link a song that actually has genuine import to me.  The... full story behind this song and WHY it matters so much to me, even to this day, would be long and a bit boring, and would probably have you making fun of me, but I can summarize it all by telling you what the subtitle of this song is in my personal library: Hope.

So I listened to everything you guys posted, except the one hour track Snarg shared with us (I skimmed over it to see if I would like its style), and I am sad to say that nothing really caught my attention. Not really my kind of music I guess. So instead of sharing a song that I hope you guys like, I will share something that I think only me will enjoy listening to. And maybe Kolson too because of reasons.

The song is the pianica version of Rhapsody in Blue, which I uploaded on Youtube because I could not find it anywhere else.

X-COM: Enemy Unknown has some great bgm played during combat. Go search on youtube and you will find a treasure trove.

Also here's a track that I basically associate as Bigby's theme from Telltale's prequel adaptation of the Fable comics, "The Wolf Among Us".

I sympathize with him in the scene it plays, because I've been there before. Not because I think of myself as having an inner beast, or having his personality. In this scene, it becomes clear that while Bigby never mentions it and nobody broaches the topic(because why would they think to), he is dissatisfied with his life. He hasn't fallen on dismal times, he is living a dismal routine. He hates it, and the only person wise to his facade is Colin(whose house he destroyed before the Exile), the only friend he's ever had besides Snow White.

I like it, Zeiss. Never seen that anime (that's what it's from, right?) I'm probably guaranteed to at least like it if it's not rap or country, and even those have exceptions.

Also, here's another fun song. The original is quite nice too, but this version is just fun:

How 'bout a little something from Banjo-Kazooie? I present Gruntilda's theme, in all its variations from level-to-level! Except for the Gobi's Valley variation. Just ain't the same. Gruntilda's theme is very thematic. Hah. Hhhhhah. But really! I love that spooky-scary melody that communicates effectively, in children's terms, that she is a "spooky, evil bitch of a witch", and she is just waiting at the tip top of her doomy witch tower, waiting for you to collect all these damn thingzz, and to throw the switch if you die or give up! Despite my love for the game(not in any practical sense anyway--it was sort of a star-crossed love), I am not a fan of collecting stuff in games. Such a chore to me.

The story of my personal discovery of Banjo-Kazooie...is embarrassing. But I'm resolved to go ahead and share the tale, short(too short to be a "tale" per sei) and unflattering though it may be.

I remember visiting a friend in my elementary youth. He jacked the cartridge into the N64, and I was just wowed by the colorful world, the thematic music, and and just not really having much experience with games in general. The only other console games I'd encountered before were Pokemon versions for the Gameboy, and Dr. Robotnik's Lean Bean Machine, which is basically it's own variation of Tetris. After watching him play, and playing a bit of it myself, I started asking if I could come over to visit after school frequently in the hopes that I would have the chance to play the game again. I know, how sincere of me. I was a real stinker back then. Unfortunately, I only ever got to usurp the game one other time, and then I never really saw it or had much contact with it again, not until I happened upon JonTron's mention of it in one of his Top Ten lists(whom I discovered via his Nightshade review).

I was super hoping that he and Arin would finish playing Banjo-Kazooie together, but time passes by, seasons change, and hopefully he will find time to return to GameGrumps once again.

...Please excuse me while I go blow my nose and cry deeply into my...wunts-own'd-coppy-of-Sonic-'06-but-realized-it-whass-crap-so-got-rid-of-it-now-iss-not-really-here-to-cry-deeply-into...

Actually, if I do remember real far back, I did also play Mario Kart and Perfect Dark Zero with my cousins during holiday visits(n64), and Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends(only once or twice with that one, not quite sure where it went to), various Sonic games and Aladdin(Genesis). This was all before I discovered Final Fantasy 7(or it might have been Legend of the Dragoon, dunno), the first of the Final Fantasy series I discovered.

Which I discovered after the first Star Wars game for the Playstation original. I think. Revenge of the Sith? Obi-Wan was the hero and Jar-Jar was in it. Friendly fire against civilians was possible, I remember getting very frustrated that Anakin wouldn't talk to me for a while, he kept on saying, "why should I help/follow you!?" You really could just attack/kill amost everyone.

I remember that game very well, that was actually the Phantom Menace game that came out shortly after the movie. Not an incredibly great game, although young me loved it since it was Star Wars.

Two new entries:

My brother sent me this since he was directing a music video for it. Chicago celtic punk rock. I'll let you be the judge, but I rather liked it. Dancing might have been involved.

Also, some anime/video game stuff:

When It comes to listening preferences, I don’t really have any.  Most of the music that I like is situational music or music that reminds me of an type of event.

When I listen to this, my thoughts go to a sunrise after a long night of a fierce battle.

Techo Magic (Nuff Said)

This one is a bit more complex, but like the title this is the “Emergence Of Talents” for me this song is just a hint of the true power a person has, and in someways the begrudging nature of having to use that power.
