"Uh huh."
She leans in to kiss him again, more softly this time, and only for a few seconds.
"We'll have practice later. For now, let's just clean up the mess you made."

She looks at him with tender eyes, and gets up.
"Here trooper." She extends her hand to the improvised dishwasher. "I hope you didn't break anything important."

That got dark fast. He'd have to ask Konrad about it later. "I think that's for the best. We were nearly half way through by the time Professor Thomen confiscated it last time. If we reignited the War of 69 we'd probably burn the ship down."

[Uh-oh. Funny for the viewers and players. Not so much funny to anyone else.]
"The ship? Is that all you'd be worried about? It would very quickly turn into the War of 86, if I had anything to say about it," Konrad warned.
"Well, enjoy the read, Ice Queen. I'd have given it to Steve, but I have reasonable doubt to think that he won't need it," he adds, winking impishly. And with that he's gone.

Once Konrad has left the room, Zelk turns to Steve and asks in the most poker-faced manner, "So, exactly how much experience do you have?"

Zelk smiles again. "No, don't worry," she reassures him. "I just wanted to see you embarrassed."
She is very pleased.
"Now then." She sighs. "I'm seeing those black dots again."

"Here, let me get that for you." He's clearly relieved that she was fucking with him and is all too happy to get back to nursing. Steve motions for her to lean forward while he redoes the pillows into an arrangement for sleeping. "I'm going to bus these dishes. I'll be back."

Once she has positioned herself, she cannot resist letting out a groan; the coziness is just that great. "Thank you," she tells him. "Don't take too long. I'm thinking of having you massage my feet when you get back."

"I don't know, I'm really good at massages. Are you sure you can handle it?" He picks up the gathered dishes and starts heading out, only stopping at the door to see if she'll say anything else.

Re: 2nd adventure: Proxy War
- Konrad only:
Once dinner is over, everyone slowly disperse. Avalon goes back into the forest and the monks to their rooms. The children however stay in the hall with Breeze to play more word games with her, while Conan has just disappeared somewhere else. Fedler is going to go check on Zelk with Mihai, and the squad members are talking among themselves. Fredrick and Adam voice their intention to go take a nap, but Naomi isn't tired yet, and she says she'll go for a walk on the beach. She leaves through the back door.
Waiting a few minutes, Konrad leaves the monastery to smoke, and takes a moment to light up his pipe outside before embarking on a leisurely stroll, following the footprints left by Naomi. It doesn't take long for him to see her in the distance, lying down on the beach, and looking up at the sky.
Every night she secludes herself away from everyone else, he thinks. Remembering his encounters with her, he believes there must be a connection.
"I was thinking about asking if you liked long walks on the beach," he says as he approaches, his pace no less leisurely than it was before, "but I already have my answer. Lovely evening for it, eh Number Two?"
Naomi faces him, but without getting up. She has both of her hands behind her head, and she doesn't have her armor on. She must have left it in her room. "Captain," she replies. "I didn't think you would try to hit on me so soon. We don't have to make small talk though, we can just find a quiet spot immediately; I wouldn't mind the distraction. We certainly could use it."
Konrad smiles briefly. "Not that I don't appreciate it, but I didn't come out here for that."
She is genuinely surprised, but her facial features suddenly take a more serious turn. She sits up. "What's the problem? Is this about Conan? I didn't get any hostile vibe coming from him. Did you?" This is the same expression that she had when they were right in the middle of the mission, when the outcome was uncertain.
He raises his hands in a calming gesture. "Whoa, relax. Would I be smiling if something had gone wrong?"
She relaxes. "...No, you're right." Now, she's incredulous. "What do you want then?"
"What do I want? I want to understand." He sits down next to her. "Why you do this." He waves his hand about, gesturing at the scenery. "Why you find time to be by yourself every night. It's just got me curious."
"Oh." She falls quiet, as Konrad really caught her off-guard. She lies down on the beach, places her hands behind her head, and closes her eyes. "Why even care? I mean, you're nice to talk to, but I don't why the sudden interest. This is probably the only mission we'll both be assigned to." She opens her eyes. "What are you doing? Lay down too." Eyes closed again.
He sighs and lays back. "Why? Why not? I just care, I don't always think about why. And someone's got to learn sometime, because something tells me it's not something you've shared with your squad members. And our adjunct currently calls the Free Feathers home, so I wouldn't speak so soon about never crossing paths again."
This leaves Naomi deep in thoughts, as she ponders what he just said. "I..." She stops herself, and stays silent for a long moment. She opens her eyes again, and looks at the sky. "I just like to be alone sometimes. My squadmates are my friends, but if I hang around someone else for too long, I get tired. It's not that complicated." It appears she was going to say more, but she leaves it at that.
"Uh-huh. I knew someone like that once. So both nights I came to you while you were recouping, you still had plenty of energy left to be around me?" He is skeptic.
"Well..." She starts, hesitantly. "You were charming, and I wanted to get laid, just like you." Naomi pauses, and with some reluctance, she reveals something else to him. "I didn't think you would want to ask me about me, or my past.”
Honestly, I didn't think I would either. He doesn't say that. "And why not? I kept thinking about your reaction when I called you out on the carpet on day 2. I didn't exactly hide my intentions, but the way you got up and left felt so dismissive. Coupled with how you keep insisting that we'll never meet again, I can't help feeling like it's all connected. So, just enlighten me, will you? Please."
Naomi turns her head to meet his eyes. "You really want to know?"
"You already know I do."
She returns her attention to the sky, and sighs. "Not sure why I'm doing this, but sure, I'll tell you about me. But you must do the same. And none of those white lies you tell those girls in the tavern. You lie to me, and we're done. Got it?"
Konrad smiles. I wonder where this is going. Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound. "Interesting...alright, we have a deal."
She seemingly prepares herself, and it takes some time before the first words get out. "...I signed up with the military at sixteen years old."
Konrad nods. She told him already. "You grew up in Freehold."
"Yes. I wanted to get away from it." Her face hardens.
"Why?"
"Had a beating father. He knew how to make sure the neighbours never learned about it; he would hit me in the stomach, or whip me with his belt on the legs. Never the face." Her tone has turned cold.
Konrad brings a hand up to her shoulder. "But you got away. Good." I wouldn't have. I'd have made him pay. Actually, he is not sure. He might have done the same, but he would hope, probably in vain, that he could bring himself to get revenge on his own father if his father was abusive.
"He never told me what his job was, but I knew. He would often leave me and my mother for months to ‘trade goods’, somewhere at sea, and taking advantage of her wife's absence to sleep with younger women. He denied it, but it was obvious he did. My mother still loved him though, and asked me to forgive him." There's now anger behind each word.
"Hmph. He sounds pathetic."
"He was a great fighter too. If someone ever made fun of him, he would just beat them up, and spin the story to make himself look like the good guy. He liked the attention. I called him out on it once, and he gave me the hardest beating I ever got; couldn't walk straight for a week."
Konrad takes a draught from his pipe. "He probably seemed that way. A man like that lacks real strength. You didn’t see him at sea. I doubt he was anything special among the other men."
"He's still alive," she reveals. "And free, despite everything." She sighs. For a moment, the only thing Konrad can hear is the sound of the waves clashing against the beach. She sits up, and faces the red mage. "You want to know why I'm telling you this?"
Without getting up, he answers, "Yes."
"You remind me of him."
Well, it does catch him off guard. He raises an eyebrow. "Really? Those are brave words. How so?"
She continues, unfazed. "You are charming Konrad. You know what words to say to make a woman fall for you. You're also selfish, vengeful, and full of pride. But you keep the facade up, just like he did. This is what I realized during our second night together. "
He scowls and sits up, and with an edge to his voice, he retorts, "Why don't you visit Myr sometime? My country is full of people just like your father."
"They're not all pirates like you."
We all wear masks Naomi. And I am nothing like your father."
"Maybe you're not. But don't pretend you're a good man Konrad. You're not. And why should anyone care about what happens to you, if you don't care about what happens to us? You haven't mourned for the monks who died, have you? Even a little?"
The question about the monks does cause Konrad to flinch. A little. "I wasn't lying when I gave Avalon my thanks!" He pauses. "The loss of life is regretable. They are men of peace, yet they took up arms to fight alongside us. They have my gratitude, but why should I mourn dead men I never knew? I spit on your petty notions of moral character. I know of Lorinthian soldiers, Deremonda's boy scouts, capable of far worse than privateers. Are they good men? My captain did not think so, and he used to be one of their best."
"I'm not trying to tell you what I think is right. I'm just telling you... how we're different from each other; I don't know anything about those monks either, not even their names, but I mourn their death. But you..." She meets his eyes. "You don't. And that's why I have no reason to care about you."
Whatever. He returns the eye contact with a coldness. "Are you finished?"
"I am," she replies. She brings her knees against her chest, and surrounds them with her arms.
Konrad takes a puff from his pipe. "Still want to fuck?"
"Sure. Just don't expect anything else. Captain."
He puts out the fire in his pipe, takes her hand, and leads her into the forest.
- Mihai and Steve:
Steve gets back to Zelk's room after taking the dishes away, and realizes she has fallen asleep in the short time he was gone. He makes sure she is comfortable, and then makes a bed up for himself nearby.
Just as Steve has finished setting up his own bed, Fedler slowly slides the door open, and enters the room with Mihai behind her. She tiptoes towards Steve. "Sorry," she whispers. "I came to make sure she's all right."
"I'm fine," replies Zelk, who's awake again.
Mihai is a bit awkward, but manages, "Hey. How are you feeling?"
Steve yawns. "It's okay. I was just hoping to get a nap in while she rested. I'm surprised you’re awake again. Passing up on a foot rub had me figuring you'd be out for quite some time."
"Oh, don't worry," she says. "I'll go back to sleep soon enough, but I have to let my doctor check on me. So be a good nurse, and listen to her."
Fedler approaches her with a smile, and kneels down next to the lieutenant's futon. "I'll just cast another spell, just in case. You don't need it, but it will still help your body recuperate. You're blessed, so you should be good after a long night rest."
"Thank you," replies Zelk, who then turns towards Mihai. "I see you've got your own bodyguard."
Fedler starts to cast Cure.
"I'm actually hiding behind her if you want to attack me,” jests Mihai. He has his hands in his pockets, and is slightly slouching. He’s embarrassed.
"I wouldn't. I'm sure Steve would be up for a challenge. He always is."
"Yes, don't make me stare at you awkwardly,” warns Steve. “Don't laugh, I'll do it." He chuckles at his own joke, and so does Mihai.
"Pretty crazy thing, back there, going at Kira with the little knife,” adds Mihai.
“Is that what happened? I didn't know that."
"Well, how else would she have gotten within spitting distance of her?"
Zelk sighs. "I shouldn't have done that. I'm supposed to stay away from melee range, but I just had to do something. Bitch." Fedler has finished healing Zelk. "Thank you Melan."
"Don't worry about it,” says Fedler.
"Yeah, you get that when..." Mihai trails off and stops himself. "Sorry, you don't need to hear that right now."
"You get what, Mihai?" inquires Steve.
Zelk is also listening.
"Uh? Oh, like she said. Had to something. Adrenaline overrides your judgement and youend up making..." He stops himself again. "Like I said, it's not important. She should rest now. He turns to her. "Anyway, I just wanted to see how you were doing."
Zelk answers him with an amused tone. "Well, me and Steve have been in the same room for a few hours now, and he hasn't made my state worse. I guess that's a positive."
Fedler smirks at Steve. "I hope you didn't do anything improper."
"Nothing untoward, no,” reveals Steve. “I've been playing my part of devoted nurse."
"I assume you didn't take my advice from last time,” says Mihai, his implied question directed to the lieutenant.
Zelk is a little confused, but quickly realizes what he means. She grins. "No, I'll do that only if he ever stops being the devoted nurse he is right now." Of course, the cursed mage has no idea what they are referencing.
Mihai chuckles, and to Steve, he says, "Better watch yourself, kid."
Steve looks back and forth between the two, confused. "Huh? Is this what it's like when you are at a loss for words? I've never experienced it before."
Mihai mutters under his breath. "Pray you never will..."
Zelk gently pats Steve's hand, like a good dog. "You'll get used to it."
“You'll have to," warns Fedler. She turns to Mihai. "We should let her rest now."
"Yeah." He agrees. "See you kids later."
As Fleder and Mihai are leaving the room, she whispers loud enough so Zelk and Steve can hear her. "You do know they're only a few years younger than us, right chap?"
The door closes on them.
Mihai shrugs. "I need something to call them, and kid fits. Besides, they kinda are."

While Steve voiced a halfhearted protest to Zelk, it didn't take much convincing to get him to go along with it. He knows deep down she's right and so he makes the arrangements. First he walks the entire path between her room and the wake. He opens doors, moves furniture, and notes potential pitfalls; basically anything to make it easier to get her safely from point A to point B. He also asks Adam to bring a chair for her to rest on when she needs it.
That done, he helps her walk to the ceremony.

Re: 2nd adventure: Proxy War
- Konrad only:
In his room, Konrad is testing his new capabilities with his minor telekinesis spell; lifting increasingly heavier objects (until he reaches sword-level), floating them across the room at increasingly higher speeds, until he starts flinging small objects and catching them with the minor spell.
The door to the room slowly slides open. Breeze is on the ground, pushing against the door with all her strength. "Hey Konrad!" She enters the room, and begins to close the door.
He wordlessly looks her way expectantly.
She floats towards Konrad, and sits down in front of him. She opens her mouth to say something, but suddenly stops herself, and instead observes him. Her merry behavior is gone, and is now replaced with cautious curiosity.
Konrad tries to lift her with his telekinesis power, but he fails. He makes another attempt, but fails again; Breeze doesn’t seem to notice anything unusual going on.
"My telekinetic power doesn't work on you." He stops fiddling around with her and just begins to lift objects. As many as he can at once.
"Uh? Really?" she wonders aloud while looking at Konrad lift other small objects around her. "I guess I'm super awesome then!?" She rubs the back of her head with one hand in an shy attempt to hide her pride in such a feat.
Konrad sends a force through all of the objects he's lifting, a push toward the ground as he lets go of them all. They clatter to the ground noisily.
The noise causes the fairy to instinctively put her hands on her ears. Once it's over, she looks at Konrad with worry in her eyes. "You didn't even smile at me Konrad. You usually do."
He sighs.
"Imagine you meet someone nice, and you have no trouble playing together. Like you and Yen. But, as time goes on, you discover that they aren't what you thought they were. There's something that gets in the way. Despite that, they still want to play. To just enjoy your company, without even pretending that nothing's wrong. Without having the courtesy to put on a mask for you. Even then, when your time together is over, you feel empty and angry, because until the next time, if it ever comes, they're done with you. Maybe one day you'll find out how that feels, and you'll stop smiling too."
Breeze hangs on his every word, her whole attention focused on him and the feelings he is trying to convey. Once he's shared everything he meant to say, the fairy lowers her head, and for a short moment, nothing happens. Then, a few sobs escape her throat. As she shakes her head, she wipes the tears with her sleeve. "I'm sorry..." she tells him, the voice broken. "I'm sorry that you're sad, and that I can't help you."
"You fairies must have hearts bigger than your whole bodies." Konrad tears off a piece of cloth from the pillowcase and hands it to her. "Sometimes there's just nothing you can do, but it was nice of you to come see me."
Her head still down, she takes the improvised handkerchief with her left hand. "Thanks." She wipes away the tears, and after a minute, she begins to calm down. "I... (sob) I just wanted to convince you to come with us and say goodbye to the monks." She sniffles. "You don't want to?"
"I don't feel like coming." He pauses. "Did you want me to?"
She nods multiples times.
I guess it doesn't exactly mean that she 'wins'. I am the one who decides who I'm there for, or why. "Alright. If you want me to go, then I will go. For your sake."
A smile appears on Breeze's face. She flies once again, and then hugs Konrad’s neck without saying a word.
Putting the fingers on one of his hands together, he places them on her back and gives her a pat. "Okay okay, don't tear my throat out. Let's go meet up with the others."
She nods again, and then let go of him. She floats towards the door, and waits for Konrad to follow her. "Come on, I'm sure they're waiting for us." There's an expression of relief on her face.
He retrieves his one ale, pops the top and starts drinking that sucker. His mood hasn't changed, but he can at least stop brooding when people need him.

Re: 2nd adventure: Proxy War
Just as he promised, Leon is waiting for the rest of the party in front of the monastery. The power couple, the squad mates and the man in rags are already there when Zelk leaves the building with Steve's help. Just when the sun has begun its descent below the horizon, the monk turns around and starts walking towards the clearing Mihai has been to earlier, but he is interrupted by Breeze's voice.
"Wait for us!" she shouts. "We're coming!"
Leon is surprised by Konrad's appearance, as are the squad members, but he quickly regains his composure and bows to the red mage as a sign of appreciation. They begin their walk on the short dirty path that cuts through the forest, and arrive at the clearing where a 25 by 10 meters building stands. "This is where the children slept," explains Leon. He then leaves the group to join the other monks who are standing in a line in front of three small pyres; their comrades' bodies have been placed on top of them. Valor is holding a torch in her hand. Volwind and Saria are standing with their guardians, and the little girl is quietly crying, her brother's arm on her shoulder. Master Avalon, who's in the middle of the line, turns around to greet the party with a nod, and gestures for them to take place behind them. There is a chair placed there already, just like Steve asked, and Zelk sits on it, her legs weaker than when they left the monastery.
There is a moment of silence. The only thing that can be heard are the sounds of the nocturnal wildlife around them, and the soft ruffing of the leaves that are constantly moved by the wind rushing in from the ocean. Avalon clears his throat, and begins singing in Stoikota with his disciples, including the children; it is an old song that dates back to before the Flood, which conveys the impressions of those that were close to the departed, how grateful they were for their presence, and the sorrow caused by their absence. Fedler, Breeze, Conan and Adam add their voices to the song by singing the lyrics reserved for those who didn't know the departed, but still appreciated all that they've done for those around them. Fredrick and Naomi, who probably can't speak Stoikota, simply lower their heads as a sign of respect. As the chorus begin to sound stronger, Valor approaches the pyres and ignites the fires of the last rite.
The song ends, and the crackling of the flames take over the silence.
The monks stay immobile for the next few minutes, their eyes fixated on the pyres. Suzy leaves the line, places her hands on the children's shoulders, and gently takes them back to the monastery. The squad members follow them, and Zelk gestures at Steve to help her get up. Fedler, Breeze and Conan shortly follow suit while the other monks stay in the clearing. The sun has now disappeared behind the horizon, and the sky is slowly turning black.
- Party:
- Steve knows the song, but Mihai and Konrad do not.
- OOC:
- You can write your reaction, and I will do a time skip to tomorrow after that.

Not knowing the song, Mihai just lowers his head.
He leaves when Fedler and Breeze do.

Konrad merely stands and watches. It's a pretty song. After a while, the sight of the kids in mourning and singing the song does cause him to defer to bowing his head a little.
He waits to see if more than one person is needed to move Zelk, but assuming someone else volunteers to make sure she gets the aid she needs to move around, he'll return to the monastery at a brisk pace without a second glance and without walking around with anyone else. He has no obligation to stick around anymore.
He will go straight back to the room he and Steve share and probably get an early night. After he cleans up a little mess from earlier.

Re: 2nd adventure: Proxy War
- Mihai only:
Mihai has begun to awaken from his slumber when he feels something touching his nose. For some reason, he doesn't feel any rush to opening his eyes. The flicking is now stronger, which causes his eyes to open. He blinks a few times before it all comes into focus. Fedler is lying down besides Mihai, with only her shirt and underwear on, flicking his nose with two of her fingers. She's smiling.
His gaze lingers on her. He doesn't notice the smile underneath his own expression that slowly starts to take over.
"Go back to sleep," she orders him with a sly tone. "I'm not finished."
She flicks his nose again. He closes his eyes, still drowsy. The flicking continues, and it is consistent. Five seconds, flick. Five seconds, another flick. Then she starts chuckling. Mihai can't help but peek.
"You're cheating," she tells him.
He shuts his eyes again. There's no flicking this time and the redheaded starts moving around; he peeks again. She has her head turned away, her left hand searching her bag for something. Mihai keeps looking, and only shut his eyes when she turns back at him. He didn't catch sight what she pulled out, but after short moment, he feels something soft going up his nostril, and gets the urge to sneeze. He opens his eyes and instinctively jerks his head back, but it's too late; he sneezes.
Fedler starts laughing. “You lost.”
"You cheated,” he replies.
"Didn't." She starts to caress Mihai's face with a black feather.
Mihai’s expression softens. He looks at the feather, remembering something like it from three months back. She keeps brushing the feather against his face in silence, a gentle smile on her face. He locks eyes with her for a moment, not wanting to say anything that will make it go away, but then asks, "Is that the same one from..."
"The same what?" she replies.
"The same feather Breeze threw out of your pocket."
"Oh." She remembers that he has seen it before. "Yes it is. It's... a memento from my mother."
She lays down her head against her pillow. The black feather keeps brushing.
He hesitates. "It's not gonna ruin the moment if i ask about it, is it? If so, I can just shut up."
"No, it's not going to," she reassures him, and then puts the feather down, near her bag. "You're family."
That one really catches him off-guard, and he can't help but stare at her. Fedler is embarrassed by his reaction, but still smiling.
"That's..." He hesitates. "...kind of a first for me."
She takes his hand, and begins to caress it with the tip of her fingers. "How exactly?"
"Well, I guess i shouldn't say that. I know I was born the third one out, but never knew who the rest of them were. Was dumped on an aunt who raised me, until..." he goes somber. "Molly really did the best she could. Was only 17, and I don't think they ever helped her with anything." His face becomes pained. "She died in a carriage accident when I was eight. Some f..." he starts bitterly, but cuts himself off at the swearing ,"cut across it. She..." He hesitates. "...fell. I don't think she felt anything." He goes quiet for a few seconds. "That was my mom. After that, I was out on the street. One day I tried to steal some food from Malik and... that started it all."
Fedler listens intently to him, her hand slowly moving across his chest as he talks. Once it's over, she says in a soft tone, "I'm sorry. I wish I could meet her."
"Yeah..." He sighs. "So... about the feather?"
"It was my mom's," she calmly reveals. "She found it on the pier the first time she arrived in the Free Feathers, and had it woven so it wouldn't decompose; a reminder of the first day of her new life."
Mihia dares. "Where was she from?" He puts his arm around her now, and she tightens their embrace.
"Emerald,” she responds. “She didn't want to enter her family's business, so she left for the Free Feathers. Met a man she fell in love with, and had two daughters."
He strokes her hair, and she continues to talk.
"The jerk cheated on her. He asked for forgiveness, but she didn't believe him, so she left him. He didn't seem to be that sad to see me and Nova leave either. Mom started her own company, and she somehow managed to keep us fed."
He holds her closer.
“I wanted to be a bard, so she paid for my lessons while Nova studied to become a merchant just like mom. They founded the Western Islands shipping company together. Then..." She pauses. "Pirates took my voice. Then my sister."
She falls silent. He keeps stroking her hair while he thinks of what to say.
"Fedler..."He sighs "...I’m sorry."
She raises her head to meet his eyes. "It's okay. It's been years now."
Mihai caresses her face, and stays quiet for a moment. "I've heard of your mom's company. They're..." He trails off, as he puts pieces together. "They're big." He looks at Fedler. "I'm kinda curious now, but if you don't want to..."
"Not today. I'm sorry, but..." Her face gets closer to his. "...for now, I just want to forget about that."
"No, it's fine." He strokes her hair a little while longer, and then leans to kiss her, softly.
Fedler returns the kiss, and with a renewing smile, she teases him. "Looks like you do prefer long hair."
He returns the smile. "I could get used to it."
"Not too long though; it could get stuck in dangerous place..."
"This much is fine though, right?"
"Think so." She kisses him again, and the cuddling is now more passionate than before. "Pretty sure I won't need those herbs anymore."
Mihai reciprocates the cuddling, and kisses her back, and then gently slides down to her neck...
Steve wakes up and sees that Zelk is standing in front of the open window. The young woman is still wearing the traditional monk outfit that Steve put on her with Fedler's help yesterday. Just a glance at Zelk is enough to tell him she has completely recovered; she obviously managed to walk over there by herself, and her skin isn't pale anymore. She faces Steve when she hears him move in his futon. "Hey," she says. "Slept well?"
