Fifth Adventure 02: The Long Day

At The Hotel:
Z immediately points out the obvious. "And how do we accomplish that exactly? We have only our word that we have any authority, which we don't actually have. Bribes don't work very well on the Guild, too many complications if they'r caught."

Sethos lets out a slightly hurt laugh, rubbing his left eye before continuing.

"Frell if I know man" He looks at Higaide behind him as he speaks, and nods with a chuckle before turning back to the mayor.

"I do know one thing though" He points to Higaide "This man, this creature, an elf without the ears, unlike anyone I've ever met before, except our other elf without the ears, I would never have known him if it weren't for my father and his leading me down here, down this path".

He shakes his head as he chuckles again "All I can think, after everything we've been through in the last three weeks, Higaide, me and our whole rag tag group, I couldn't have done any of it if it wasn't truly what I wanted to do, and I like to hope, maybe that means it's what I was meant to do". He grins again before pushing himself off of the desk gently.

"I hope you realise what you're meant to do" He says, gently and slowly.

Mayor's Office:
"I..." the man looks genuinely touched. "I hope so too I... things haven't been well lately and, I couldn't bear the thought of failing the people who rely on me..." He nods at the Burun and strange creature in turn. "Thank you, both of you. Hopefully... hopefully things will work out soon." He has a look of determination in his eyes he didn't previously.

Sethos offers his hand to shake, "It was nice meeting you".

Zeiss turns to Z.

"I did not count on the Guild to agree to this. I want to see how they will react to this demand. You know, test the waters as they say? We only ask to investigate a hallway. Strange, but with apparently no consequences to the Guild. And if they refuse, which would be strange, we let the word out that we plan to leave tomorrow. While we go check anyway."

"Well, if you need our help, we'll likely be in town for a bit longer."

*He then takes his leave and returns to the hotel.*

Zeiss wrote:Zeiss turns to Z.

"And how will that prevent the guards from patrolling said hallway?"

"We have many options. Find out the patrol pattern and act accordingly. Create a distraction. Or maybe even send Dara, if it can check for a secret passage."

Z folds their fingers together. "To your great misfortune we only have one person who could steal a uniform and attempt to be clandestine in this manner, and I do not trust the barbarian with such a delicate task." Their eyes narrowed as they thought. "I think our best bet would be to try and distract the guard, even for only a few seconds, then slip in. But of course, all of this relies on finding something in that hallway."

Rory gets an idea, and grins mischievously in Tabran's direction. "We can have this guy," he said, referring to the Lycan, "Hide out where the guard normally shows up, cast sleep on him when he approaches, and drag him out of sight. That should give you plenty of time."

"You are saying there might be only one guard."

Zeiss thinks a little. Then asks Z :

"How good are you at being stealthy? Better than me?"

"you guys know if you really want to know whats down there you can ask Han to borrow his Scan mask and eather Zeiss or Z or both of you can go check it out if there is somthing that we go from there?"

Z shook their head. "I am good at being unknown, not being hidden. I am afraid there is a crucial difference in this case."

"thats a shame i guess then its Zeiss on his own with the scan mask"

"I have another idea."

Zeiss pauses.

"We send Hanuel ask the Guild's permission to investigate that hallway. If they say no, Dara inform us immediately of their answer and we move in the hallway. We only have to distract the guard or send him away. Dara could help me do that. Or someone else who can be stealthy."

He pauses again.

"We could also ask the Lieutenant to help us. I think we can convince him. We only want to look at a wall, not steal their shipment."

"That'll get politics involved," Z mutters. "The Miner's Guild isn't officially Naverre but it is unofficially, and having the military come down on the Guild while a war just broke out? I don't know how that'll go over."

"while i do think that there is something wrong in this town there is a real chance that there is nothing in that hallway and that she used an exit spell to get away? Zeiss are you sure she didnt spot you following her?"

"I am not sure. It doesn't mean we should not check on that hallway. Just in case."

"oh dont get me wrong i wasn't expecting to find a hidden room behind the golem forge, so im all for having a look at the hallway im just saying that there is a chance that there may not be anything there and that were going though all this for nothing"

"i know were in a state of emergency at the min but is it normal for the mines to be so heavily guarded?"

Z considers Tabran's question. "Was it a Naverre soldier, or a Miner's Guild guard patrolling the area, Zeiss?"

"I'm thinkin' if ya diggin' up plat, ya gonna be guardin' ya stuff good. Lieutenant's ya best bet, but ya gonna be obvious-like if gettin' 'em. If I can be gettin' to ya hallway, I might be able to be trackin' 'er if that's what ya wantin'."

Gwydo, silent thus far speaks up.
"Here's a thought. I may have a way to distract at least some of the guards."

"I know just enough engineering to be able to ask intelligent, coherent questions about the mines. I can ask for a tour of the area, on the basis of checking in with the workers, and as a healer, offer my services to any of the miners in need."

"Then, while the guards are guiding me and my air quotes 'escort'" he turns and looks at Zeiss and Z "through the mines, Zeiss could slip away unnoticed. Meanwhile Z tries to be as noticeable as possible to distract the guards from Zeiss' leaving."

"Having anyone else with engineering knowledge may benefit the plan as well."
Looking at Snarg, "I'm sure your nose would be fairly handy too."

"That might be a good way to distract them at the entrance, but i tremendously doubt it'd get you a centimeter past the door, no matter how good your knowledge is.

If you're able to slip inside using that, though, i guess it should be good enough. Still, making your way back out could be troublesome. It'd be best if you could do it without disturbing the guards in any way. Now, if one could cast exit..."

Zeiss answers to Z.

"It was a Naverre soldier."

"Naverre soldiers..." Z muses. "I suppose it's a moot point. Gwydo points out the obvious, a Platinum mine is not something they will leave unguarded and the Confederacy has a vested interest in the Miner's Guild functioning since they automatically get a percentage of their goods." Z fidgets a bit. "The problem I have with most of these plans is they result in one or two of us getting access to this hallway and whatever lies therein, which worries me greatly. This could be something legitimate like weapon research for the Naverre, it could be something underhanded like smuggling or redistribution. It could be something personal, like Zeiss' fond theory of clandestine relations. My point is we have no idea and I'd rather we think of a way where we could get to this spot with as many people as possible rather than risking one unit to the unknown."
