Earthbound Tabletop Game
Y'know I don't even know if any of you have heard of or know Earthbound (or any of the Mother series) well but someone mentioned aside an Earthbound tabletop game. Honestly I have no idea how that'd work, I mean the ruleset would be easy to work out but... anyone who's not familiar with the series would be so, so lost. And it'd be awesome!

I dunno, the idea here sounds like its mostly carried by nostalgia, imho.
I love/hate Earthbound, the game series, but I'm not sure I'd play a Earthbound the tabletop.

Re: Earthbound Tabletop Game
See whenever I hear the term 'nostalgia' I think of the idiots who claim World of Warcraft was best in vanilla (hint: it was not) or people who insist no good games have been made in the last 20 years (hint: also not true). Then again I don't know many people who genuinely enjoy (some) older games like I do... so shrug.
Now, given a holodeck? I'd totally load up Earthbound to that. *wanders off to grab his Pencil Eraser*

Only because I've played Smash Bros. I'm reading the wikia article, and basically what I gather is that it's very unlike DnD-format tabletop games.
Where would you go with the setting? Would you stick to present/near future, or would you shoot for the mars era, or the age of interstellar travel? What kind of PCs could players make?

Oh I'd set it in 1996 like Earthbound itself was, not in the era of Mother 3. As for which PCs, anything within reason (like, say, a rogue Happy Happyist or maybe the 3rd Strongest Mole).

Don't really know a whole lot about Earthbound so I can't really say. From what I've read and seen it seems like a big combination of weird and playful with just a touch of seriousness.

Okay, GOD NO.

Probably way too knee-jerk for what I'm going for, but I'm not gonna throw up a paragraph in which I politely decline and explain why it wouldn't be for me.

*stifles a laugh* Yeah didn't think any of you were into Earthbound. Not that surprising.

Makes you wonder how many adventurers or otherwise the poor Ogre has to put down every so often.

Re: Earthbound Tabletop Game
What I meant by nostalgia is that if you take away the 'video game' away from it, it becomes a wacky world with wacky character and a 'OMFG NO D:' ending. I couldn't play a campaign in that kind of setting. A single adventure? Maybe.
But still, I love/hate Earthbound for what it is, and replay it from time to time.

I'd play it. But I like things where people dick around with their friends and occasionally make a go at saving the world. *looks lovingly at Homestuck*
