Those would have been perfect gifts for my nieces, and they don't even play video games.

I remember saying in days past that I have no defense against cute things. Well, that's still a thing.

I r jelly. Amiibos are extremely overpriced here in Brazil, so I'd have to choose between one amiibo or a full-priced game... Tis not fun 4 me.

Yeah, I feel bad for all gamers in Brazil. I hope the prices don't translate to Steam.

Out of curiosity why does Brazil have such high tariffs on electronics imports? I read on the Escapist that Nintendo was recently priced out of the market there.

I think the Brazilian government has classed video games under "gambling and such"? Thus taxes taxes taxes.

Zeiss is right about the classification. And everything is taxed in Brazil 3 times over. God-forbid you import stuff from anywhere in the globe if you are not a company or something, you'll end up paying 1.8-2.3 times the original price, and that's IF customs do not decide to "check" your import and keep it until you pay 0.5 times the price of the product in fees, which is not entirely rare.

So yeah, I kinda get why Nintendo jumped off the wagon in respect of Brazil because of the taxes, BUT I also call bull on the same Nintendo because they could have built a local factory and reduce costs drastically like Sony and M$ did, and those are still in the gaming market.

Literally electronic distribution is the only way to get games at a decent price for consoles, mobiles and PC alike, but only because the government probably isn't entirely sure how to tax it. Yet.

That's a pretty sheisty way of getting around the taxes though. Should companies really have to build factories in a country just to circumvent their tax laws? What if they don't need the extra production or are happy with the factories they already have?

And it also begs the question of is this a scam to get more foreign businesses to invest in Brazil's economy?

Brazil has a history of being scammed over by foreign powers and companies, not to mention being historically a colony. Not only that, asking big international companies to keep a foothold in the country they are exploring and tell them to employ the local workforce in return of lower taxes is hardly a scam.

Did you guys know that if you put the words "phase" and "kill" together, you get "offset"?

This here is called an offset video. I don't know why it's called that, but i wonder if the untrained eye will be able to tell why it's awesome incarnate.

The compound word can be easier to remembered as "mutual kill" for the meaning of 'counterbalance'. I know that in english, 'offset' and 'counterbalance' are the same thing, but there are different words in japanese for the other meanings offset has in the english language.

That's also the name of the system in a fighting game that allows both characters to take no damage while trading blows. Source here (JP).

Aaaaaah, i get it now. Should've known not to put too much faith in damn google translate, but even the GG Xrd videos in Niconico call it "offset". Figured it might've been language barrier on their end, but i kinda shrugged on it, since the name seems to have defaulted.

I do know of a better dictionary for Kanji than Google, but i got lazy. NOT GETTING AWAY WITH IT ANYMORE WITH YOU HERE, EH JAVAN.

Rikaichan for the firefox and Rikaikun for Chrome are great to have if you need Japanese-English translations. Not only can it be toggled on and off, you also only get the meaning of the stuff you mouse over. Need to check the name dictionary or more info about the radical from the kanji? Pressing shift switchs dictionaries.

Since I'm no master of the japanese language, I tend to use it often. Honestly tho, I wish there was a japanese-japanese dictionary for it, would be an even greater tool for learning.

I don't have them on disc right now, ever since i reinstalled the system (should really correct that, though), but i've been using the freelang JP dictionary, and NJstar for Kanji, and they've worked pretty good. Didn't know there was an actual browser plugin, though. Thanks.

I've found lately that I have a huge hankering for older games. So I dusted off my old Saturn, bought a lithium battery and installed it so the hard drive would work, and started busting out my old Saturn games.

Right now I'm playing Dragon Force. Gameplay is awesome but I forgot how cheesy the opening is.

Man, I love this kind of game about the same amount I love dungeon crawlers. The serious amount of cheesyness in that opening reminded me of Shining in the Darkness somehow.

That said, I didn't have time to jpg artifact the hell out of it. A shame.

Lol, you are the best Essoje. You are also so right about Shining in the Darkness; Epic cheese at it's finest. I was so happy when Sega included all the Genesis Shining games on their Legends collection some years back. It's infinitely more convenient to play on my 360 and I don't have to replace any of the battery backups if they ever stop working.
