Fedler is kneeling on the ground, holding Yen close to her, and won't let anyone else approach them. The little girl is too tired to cry anymore. It doesn't seem she even realized that Velstar has put woven shackles on her wrists. Breeze slowly hovers at Fedler, and with her head hanging in shame, whispers an apology. The hunter doesn't react for a few seconds, then beckons the little fairy to approach her niece so she can hug her too.

All of your clothes are soaked by the rain, and the fire burning away the trees around you is finally starting to go out now that the Aspect has been defeated. Mihai's and Konrad's clothes have burned in many places, and if it wasn't for Breeze healing them immediately, they would be in a critical condition.

Velstar is looking over an unconscious Saemon with an austere expression on her face. Amelia, his sister, has put his head on her knees, and is holding back her tears.

The two thieves from Fredricks' group are standing near the fort, along with Molly (whose rope that tied her was at some point cut off) as well as the five members of the militia. They are in shock, and frightened by what just happened.

This is when the three bound thieves who were left with Velstar approach the scene. Calla looks at the burned corpses laying on the ground, then back at her unbound colleagues.

"Where's dad?" she asks in Harmonie.

Nobody is capable of answering her.

"Where's dad?" she asks again with anguish. She then looks back at the bodies. "Dad?"

She starts walking towards them, but Molly steps forward to stop her.

"I'm sorry Calla," says Molly. "He..."

"Dad!?"

"Calla, don't. Please."

She cries out for her father again, then bursts into tears. Molly hugs the young woman, letting her cry on her chest.

Steve is still holding the journal.

Konrad places a firm hand on Steve's shoulder. "It is a shame it had to come to this," he croaks, his parched throat recovering after taking in rain for a drink. "You did good, Steve. If you hadn't known what to do, we might have crawled away from this with more dead. You saved us."

Mihai approaches Steve.

"Steve." - he calls, with a dry tone that belies a lot of weight - "What happens next? How long till Yen is reported?"

Steve turns his head and looks Konrad in the eyes. Horror and shock live there now and maybe tears. It's hard to tell in the rain. After a long moment he nods a little. "Not all of us." His gaze returns to Yen and Saemon.

It takes a long moment for Steve to acknowledge you and then to answer. "Report? We don't need to report anything. As the local warden, Velstar has already taken them into custody. It's just a matter of arranging transport now."

Mihai looks at Steve. Then at Yen. He darts between the two for a moment before speaking again.

"That Wolf... the Oracle, whatever she was, she seemed to have found a way to insulate a mind from Raw Magic."

He then looks Steve dead in the eye.

"If we can open that thing, we just might find some way to help Yen."

He looks down at the journal, still pressed against himself in a death grip. After staring at it for a couple of heartbeats his arm relaxes. "It's locked. And it's emanating a lot of magic power. Not raw magic, but not a spell either. It's all of the elements in roughly equal measure somehow balancing each other out. It's powerful though. It feels like one of the wards made to protect the isolation-."

His words choke off and die as he looks back over at Yen.

Mihai picks up on his choking up. He doesn't know what it is, but the gist of it is clear.

He takes a step closer to him, and says slowly and deliberately. - "We have to try."

Konrad follows Steve's gaze as it lingers on Yen and the chief of Waterglass. "Something tells me you've seen this before."

"Uh-huh, right. You do that. Well, let's wait before we open that, Mihai. Right now, let's focus on getting everyone back to town, and arranging a transport for the thieves to Highwind."

The following is being delayed by the following post and any related dialogue:
He approaches Amelia. "What your brother did was very brave. I think it would be best if you hold onto Saemon's copy of our little contract with the thieves until we reach Waterglass, and give it to Mayor Irving in Saemon's stead. He'll want to hear about what's happened, and besides, I doubt it would inspire much trust in them if me and my comrades held onto both copies."

"No." - he kinda snaps - "We go back to the village now and Velstar announces what happened, there'll be no containing this. People will be terrified of Yen and suspicious of Saemon, and this thing will snowball all the way to the Citadel."

He goes up to Velstar.

"Velstar, this is the journal of a woman who could insulate a wolf's mind from Raw Magic. The way it's guarded, and how everyone's been rushing to get it back, there has to be something major in here. There could be a way in here to help Yen and Saemon, but it'll be too late if everyone in Waterglass starts treating them like the plague."

"That's not what i was getting at, but now that you mention it, there does seem to a be ton of magical energy emanating from this thing. If we're gonna at least open it, might be safest to do it away from the populace."

As you approach Velstar, she gives final instructions to the members of the militia. They nod at her, then spread out. Two of them run south, towards the path leading to the village, and the three others stay near Saemon. The thieves, except for Molly and and Calla, approach the bodies of their colleagues and cover them with their cloaks.

Once the party reaches the warden, she explains the orders she has given.

"They're going to protect Amelia from her brother in case he wakes up," she says in a grim tone. "Bervlin and Brandon will scout the village, make sure that bitch hasn't left an unknown accomplice behind, and find out who else she killed."

If one party member voices their disapproval for fear of spreading the news, Velstar will reply;

"They won't say anything until I get there."

She listens intently to the party, and doesn't say a word even as she takes the journal presented to her. Without any hesitation, she turns her back to you, walks into the fort, and puts her hand on the lock. The mechanism melts at the touch of her hand, and the book is unlocked. She opens it, only to be left immediately aghast at the sight of its contents.

The pages are blank. A little compartment has been cut out within the book, and one strange object was left in it; a spherical globe half the size of an apple. It looks like one of those snow globes people use as ornaments, but instead of water, it contains an equal measure of all eight Elements, all swirling into each other the way oil and water do not mix.

"What the...?"

Mihai sees the globe, squints, then makes an observation - "Mages have to convert Raw Magic into an Element to make it safe. The Wolf was being buffered from the Raw Magic by an Element. And her precious journal contains nothing but an Orb with the eight Elements..."

Noticing Velstar's expression, he approaches her.

"The thieves may know more. That, or their buyer will, for sure." - he affirms, implying his intent to dig deeper.

"Too many people depend on us." - Mihai mutters - "That's what a man named Jacob wrote in his letter to the first Coins team, that the Wolf killed. It's all bloodied up, but you can tell the Oracle used to be one of his people before something happened and she went rogue. The one behind the theft of the journal was almost certainly him. He'll know what that thing is."

"Since the Coins didn't want Lavoie or the buyer to get their hands on the journal, then this buyer doesn't sound like someone we're prepared to meet yet," he replies, still "studying" the artifact. "We don't even know when he's coming, and I'm not really interested in risking spending more time away from our people than necessary."

"Those Adjuncts most likely were the buyer. Sent by the buyer, anyway. So yeah, we're not waiting around. I hope Molly will know how to contact them, but in the meantime." - he looks at Velstar - "Yen and Saemon need time. If the villagers go into a panic because of the Curse, even if we find a way to help them, it won't matter - they'll already be marked. Isn't there somewhere they can kept safe while we follow up on this?"
