"We'll need Blue for reconnoitering and coordination. Don't give away our best advantage for no reason. Ice and the others will be fine." It's clear he has absolute confidence in Zelk and her team's ability to handle it. "Right, Ice?"

Ice replies with no hesitation. "They won't pose any problem. Besides, if we need healing, we'll regroup with you later."
Blue starts flexing in the air. "This is going to be a piece of cake!"
The agent proceeds to give you the address of both locations.
"The docks are right between these two spots," points out Red. "Should we use the ship as our rendezvous point?"
"I have no objection," replies the lieutenant. "I'll go brief my squad about the situation, and head immediately for the warehouse."
She turns towards your informant.
"Thank you for you assistance."
"You're welcome," he responds. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll stay here and... recover."

Thirty minutes later, the party is near the building where your target lives. The building is two stories tall, and he also uses his apartment as an office. There is a sign at the entrance of the first floor with the name of his business written on it; Verdun's Eye. Your informant told you he resides in the south-east apartment of the second floor, and that some of his clients have been seen going in and out of the building, mostly during day time.
Blue goes into reconnaissance, and comes back with the emplacement of the windows, doors, and sewers entrances (just in case). She didn't dare to enter the property to get the layout of the building, or even approach Verdun's windows. The roof is also connected to the next building to the north.
It is now 4:31 PM. It is very windy, and looking up at the sky, it is probable that it will start raining soon.

Re: 2nd adventure: Proxy War
Alright! We are ready with zee plan!
Description of Alphonse: Thirty-something years old man, short dark hair, blue-green eyes, clean shaven; wears plain clothes (pants, leather boots, white shirt, black jacket).
Review of Whisperer phrases: we were each taught a few signals to send to each other if necessary. Thieve's Cant, if you will (or won't, up to you)
Move, Stop, Door, Trap, Enemy, Friendly, Execute.
Small phrases allowed via signals, such as "Trap Execute"
Positions
Konrad: midway between top and bottom on left side.
Steve: Bottom right.
* First we send Mihai, Fedler, and Breeze into the sewers via east entrance, to spike/stake the basement exit shut, if there is one. Remaining members will hang out in front.
* Then, they will come up and start stealth and enter the apartment to go to Alphonse's office (that's Fedler, Mihai, and Breeze). As he begins, Konrad will count to himself, to 15.
* Konrad will count down the last 5 seconds on his fingers for the others. When he reaches 15, he will nod to the others, and then Steve and Konrad will tie the doors shut. Then, we proceed to spike the windows shut with nails. If we do not see our target trying to escape by then, we will return to our corners and watch for him.
Equipment
* Mihai and Konrad each have one pair of manacles. Mihai is borrowing his from Steve.
* Fedler, Konrad, and Mihai each have one tanglefoot bag.
* Mihai is borrowing Steve's crowbar.
* Mihai also has a mirror. He might be borrowing that too.
Special mention
* Kolson wanted to remind us that he has a whistle, a 10-foot pole, some torches, three red chalks, and four sacks.
NPC directions
* Fedler is encouraged to get in range and throw her bag the moment she sees Alphonse.
* If the fight moves from the second floor to the street below, Fedler will not be jumping down. Instead, she will go to the roof to gain height advantage.

Re: 2nd adventure: Proxy War
Through careful preparations, the party managed to capture Alphonse Verdun, and after tying him up to his own chair, they proceeded to interrogate him. However, he refused to give up any kind of information, and Konrad decided to use more forceful methods. Steve and Breeze left the room with a bunch of documents they took from Verdun's, which the fairy read at an amazing speed, and discovered that he had been stealing some of the funds handed to the Ruling Council of Zest's Gate with the help of someone on the inside. Just as Konrad was going to start using more violent means of persuasion, under the disapproving eye of Mihai and the frigid gaze of Fedler, Steve came back into Verdun's office with the evidence that Breeze had found.
It didn't take long to convince the "investigator" to give up his secrets. He was indeed working as a middleman for Kira Paddle, and the location of where the exchange would take place was at sea, at a place called Nomad's Cove, 75 km southeast of Zest's Gate. The Lorinth agents were actually traveling on a merchant ship, and would later join Kira Paddle's vessel at the designated rendezvous point to proceed with the exchange. There was only one little snag in all of this; Kira had already left Zest's Gate fifteen minutes ago.
The party rushed back to the Barracuda, not without first leaving Alphonse Verdun tied to his chair, and giving the incriminating evidence to the Free Feathers agent they met a short time ago. Once the adjunct got back to their ship, they noticed that the crew was already getting ready to depart. The captain called for a meeting in his quarters, where Zelk and her squad revealed they had come back from their own mission, and they had learned about the time and location of the exchange, but nothing else.
The Barracuda is now heading for Nomad's Cove, and the trip will take approximately nine hours. Rain is now obstructing the horizon, and the swells are writhing.

Re: 2nd adventure: Proxy War
[I believe Mihai also left the room, while Fedler stayed. For those of you who are reading along, I just barely got a sock in Alphonse's mouth when the others walked in again. Mihai came right up to him and took it out.]
Konrad leaves his cabin to get some air. Sometimes he's strutting, sometimes he's pacing, his thoughts wavering between elation and anxiety over finally catching up to the person who had been the catalyst for the demise of his old crew.
Not exactly in the mood for showing Fedler or Steve how to sail - most of the time it's "tell" rather than "show" while moving on the ocean - he nevertheless finds some time to discuss with them what to do during a storm, given the crew's worries about the clouds overhead and the rain creating a cascading veil in the distance. He gives the two of them over to swabbing duty, or something of that nature to keep them busy, to look for Mihai.
"D, there you are. We're on our way, now. Won't be long until we find ourselves storming the cove, or looking sidelong down the broadsides of a pirate ship."
"How are you right now? When we left Zest's Gate, you were looking very tense." In fact, you seem quite tense right now.

Konrad pulls out his pipe and lights up. He takes a long puff, and upon exhalation, picks up where the young man left off. "I get the feeling you don't really want to open up with me. You keep on waxing laconic like this, and whatever problems you have with another man, any man, will never be addressed - if you have a problem at all. Well I'm calling your bluff, mate. And not because I want to, but because we have to. For our sakes and everyone else's aboard this ship. Well?"

Konrad sighs, his patience starting to wear away. But he blows another plume of smoke from his pipe, which gets carried by the wind as the ship sails on, and renews himself. So it's going to be like that, then? Alright. "I'm not dancing around this, D. You got something to get off your chest that concerns me, and I got a friend who's angry with me and I haven't got the faintest clue why. I'm not a fan of riddles, so will you please lay out for me what's got you so put out?"

Mihai's stare hardens.
"Breeze and Steve got us the information. If torturing a prisoner for nothing is what you call your time well spent, feel free to share in their credit. But everyone who was there will know better."

Konrad stops mid-inhalation, surprised by the way Mihai chose to word the events that got them here. He regathers himself, and blows more smoke to the wind. "I see. 'For nothing'? That's a convenient perspective, considering how it was thanks to Breeze's ability to read faster than our human brains can think that, what otherwise was necessary, was no longer needed, mate."

And the debate begins, and Konrad puts on his super serious face. "Must be a grand view from up there on your high horse. It may be a distasteful practice, but it works. We'd still be our way to Nomad Cove right now, not because we got lucky and had a fairy with us, but because one of us was willing to do something distasteful, absent the watchful gaze of Mihai the Merciful. The empires of today owe that they still stand in part due to employing the use of torture to interrogate prisoners."

Mihai's lopsided grin fades but his eyes don't lose focus.
"Don't care to get swept in your stupid dancing anymore than i care about this captain fantasy of yours, on a ship and crew that were handed to you on a silver platter, and that you keep pretending will mean anything after the job's done. That you keep pretending to have any claim to their admiration or even trust, while not having earned a shred of it. That you come here and presume to lecture me with that diarrhea while keeping up that air of grandeur is the lamest joke i've had ever since i set foot in the Feathers."

Konrad's eyes narrow. "That's where you're wrong, boy. I've rightfully earned trust and admiration from all four of you. You just haven't been paying attention. I'm aware these fancy duds and this magnificent ship were given to me on loan, and I'll earn them for keeps as well. And if you mark any of my words from this little talk between us, these I've just spoken shall trump all the rest. So if you have any already written down inside your head, best wipe the slate clean and take to heart the facts I'm laying down and what I've promised to do."
Konrad takes another long drought from his pipe, and exhales a sigh. "I was sure we were good friends not moments ago, D. You've made me a very sad man today. That'll be all."
He turns to leave.

Re: 2nd adventure: Proxy War
- For Konrad only:
Once the meeting in the captain's quarters is over, and Konrad has suggested that Fedler takes swabbing duty alongside Steve, she stays in the room with the intent to talk to the captain alone.
"Was there something on your mind, Fedler?" asks Konrad.
Yes... I didn't want to contradict you in front of the others, since you're the captain of the ship, but I would prefer if you didn't put me in swabbing duty." She appears somewhat anxious.
"Oh...you seem preoccupied. Or, was there something else you wanted to do?"
"Uh, no, I just... I guess I wanted to-" She stops herself, as she is trying to find the correct words. After a few seconds, she finally asks, "There's going to be a battle, right? Between our ship and that pirate's."
Konrad traces the hilt of his scimitar thoughtfully. "Perhaps. It's something to prepare for, at the very least. Half of what you said is for certain, by land or by sea, there will be a battle. There's Kira's whole crew to contend with."
"Yeah, well, that's it. We might die, and I don't want the last thing I do in this life is me swabbing the deck." She waits for him to respond.
Konrad fills his pipe while he contemplates what he would do if today was the last day of his life. He grins. "Very well. It'll have to wait, though. I must borrow Mihai for a chat in private."
"Thanks." She thinks. "What are you going to talk to him about?"
"To tell you the truth, I'm not quite sure. Only that he seemed very cross with me when we left Zest's Gate."
"Uh. I didn't notice, I had my mind... elsewhere." She takes a look at the door. "Well, if there's nothing else? Uh, captain?"
She's still not used to referring to Konrad as captain.
"One other matter, yes,” continues Konrad. “When we were in Alphonse's office, and I made up some excuse for everyone to leave, you stayed. You must have known what was coming next. Did you?"
She tenses up a little. After some hesitation, she replies, "Yes, I did."
"Do you not approve?"
It takes a bit of time before she manages to give him an answer. "I do. I'm just... I'm just glad it didn't have to happen." She pauses, and then says with a biter tone, "I thought I could be callous about it, but I... couldn't."
"You tried. I'm sorry; I know most people find it repulsive. There are times I've had to tell myself that they deserve it, but that's not always true."
Konrad does truly pity those who are merely in the wrong place at the wrong time and happen to know what he needs to find out. But if it gets him one step closer to achieving his goals, he's not above hurting innocent people. And if they happen to have wronged him or his friends, well, it gets way easier.
"Yeah. Let's just not dwell on it." She turns around to leave, but then stops herself to face her companion again. "Konrad. Let's say this is really your last day in this world. What are you going to do?"
He becomes somber for a moment. "I'm going to give them a hard time, and bring the devil's fire to them." There's pause of uncertainty, a feeling whether he should leave her with that answer.
"...I'll find company willing to hear my last goodbye. Don't worry, I won't be alone."
She raises an eyebrow. "Uh huh. You're not going after Lieutenant Zelk, are you? You're more likely to die at her hand than Kira Paddle's."
Konrad is wounded by the suggestion. "And betray a treasured friend? Nay! Steve's been enamored with her for years, he deserves a fair chance without me suddenly swooping in."
She smirks. "Good, because these two are already more than this ship can handle." She turns to face the door. "See you later."

- Mihai and Fedler:
Mihai is at the bow of the ship, lost in thought, when Fedler taps on his shoulder. "Hey trooper."
He looks back. "Oooh, Freckles...."
His voice sounds like it would have been strained just a moment ago, but loosened when he saw her. His face softens. She looks at him for a short moment, and hesitantly asks, "Can you come with me?"
"Uh, yeah..." replies Mihai, who feels putty in her hands.
Fedler goes below deck, followed by Mihai, who soon realizes they are going to her cabin. She opens the door, and lets him in.
"Wow,” he says, “, the place really hasn't changed, since last ti--- no, wait, I think it's completely different."
She laughs a little. "Uh huh. Keep going."
"Last time I came here... I don't know, I think the air was heavier. I'm glad it's better now."
Mihai notices that her armor has been left on the chair next to her bed. She approaches him, a little nervous, but calm at the same time, and puts her hands on his chest. "I'm glad too." Her face is very close. He kisses her, and she begins to unbutton his clothes.
__________________________
Fedler is laying down on her bed, under the sheets, her head on Mihai's chest. "I'm getting envious of our captain's quarters. I would do with a bigger bed."
He winces at the mention of that place, as if hurt.
“I... remember when I saw you go in there, back on the deck..." he starts. “I remember I got so scared that you weren't there anymore. Maybe... I’d lost my chance. Couldn't stop imagining what... you might be talking about; if you were still mad. Were you upset? Angry? Heh... talking about how I’d..." He stops himself.
"Yes, I was angry. At myself. I tried to act like if it was all your fault, but..." She sighs. "Well, I'm not good at lying to myself."
"Listen, I... I just want to understand. If it ever happens again, I think I’ll just chase you down. Or... refuse to leave, I guess. I dunno. I just don't wanna wait. Don't want the uncertainty. Would you like that?"
A small smile appears on her face. "If I cry like that again, just give me a hug, and that should do the trick. I think." Thunder rumbles in the distance. Fedler sighs. "I want to stay here."
"If I’m on the other side of that, just... just look at me. You don't even have to say anything, just look. I'll know. Or hug me too."
The young woman chuckles. "I'm not sure I'll ever get used to saying sappy lines like that." She considers something. "Well, there's one thing. Wanna hear?"
"Yeah... “
“Just 'yeah'? Not sure I'm going to anymore." She teases. "Maybe I should just chase you out of my room without your clothes. Let Breeze have fun at your expense."
He holds on to her tighter. "I know what to do now."
She stays quiet, and then starts singing a short melody about a bird stuck in a cage, exchanged between many owners, and longing for its freedom, until it is finally given to it. Mihai strokes her hair while she sings.
"You know,” he begins, “after that night when I woke up to you playing with my nose, I was really nervous. I said that stupid line ‘I’m no good at pillow talk’... and I’m not, but... I was so scared of saying the wrong thing. That maybe you'd think I..."
"Think what?"
"That I was just in it for..." He stops himself. "That I didn't care about you."
She raises her head, smiles, and puts a kiss on his nose. "I knew you cared. And I also did." She rests her head against his chest again. "So let's just get that bauble the military wants so much, and go back home. I still want to see some puppets."
"Yeah.... Listen, Fedler..."
"Hmm?"
It's just... before a couple days ago, you never... felt like that. Even that say, when you said you wanted to join the Coins. I asked if you wanted revenge -was bracing myself for too, but... You just shook your head. You were so sure, I... When I look back on it, you always had a light. But all this boat gave you was something to kill. "I can't forgive it for that; for what I saw it doing to you. When I said it back there... That I remember when you used to be so scared of... you know. You know, back in the forest, I couldn't stop thinking about how amazing you were. I don't think you now that. I held you trembling like a weed. And I’d seen that before, and most people who go trough it are down for the count. But you got back up so fast. I never thought you ever needed to change. I didn't want you to."
"Well..." She reflects on that time. "What almost happened to Alphonse; it made me realize that... I just don't want to do something like that, even if I agree with it." She snuggles Mihai. "So don't worry; I'm fine."
He smiles.
"You should do more of that,” she comments.
“Well, I did a lot of it, but it was all fake. You must have seen a bit of it for a second, back when we first met. Didn't last long at all, though. Couldn't. I couldn't put a mask on for you. And when we were talking shop, and I said i had to tell my guys about the deal, and just for a second you face dropped, I knew. I couldn't let you go do it alone. I reasoned it with Konrad and Steve, but it was a farce. I just wanted so much to go with you. It had never happened before. I didn't know why, but I didn't care. I would have said anything to get them to go along. And if they didn't, I... Well, screw the Coins, I thought."
"Thank you, but..." Her mood darkens. "I don't want to dwell on those days. What I want is to think about the good days ahead. Like that puppet show. Or one of Steve's stupid pranks. And whenever I see Yen again."
"I'm sorry..." He gently tightens his embrace. "Nine months to go."
She realizes something, and starts laughing. "I hope nobody is listening in, and heard only that part, or they'll misunderstand everything we've been talking about."
Mihai gasps "Uh... That'd be..."
"Too soon. That'd be too soon. Don't worry; I'll say it for you, since you're not allowed to."
He chuckles. "Thanks..."
"Also, Freckles? Really?" she says, teasing. "You know how many people called me like that back when I was singing in taverns? Come on, take a guess."
He winces. "Ah... I kinda thought I was on to something.” He sighs. "Now I can't find another one. The magic's gone. Uh... half the crowd?"
"Only half?"
"All of them? Sorry, I’m only good with round numbers..."
"Most people used it as my stage name. They never knew my real name." She remembers something. "Actually, I'm not even sure you know that Yen's full name is Yennefer. Did she tell you?"
"Uh, no. No, I didn't know that." He's interested.
"Yeah, my sister thought it would fit the image she had of a daughter that would one day become a lady." She pauses. "Yen doesn't mind being covered with muck, and likes to set traps for animals so she can play with them, and then release them."
"Yeah... she's really quick on her feet. I was impressed."
"Well, she wanted to become a hunter, and to follow me in the forest. I figured it was just a passing phase, so I trained her a little."
"Can't blame her."
"Oh, I blame her. She pestered me so long until I agreed to show her a few tricks." She smirks. "...Thank you for writing to her. Those stories really cheer her up."
Mihai lets out a sigh. "I just... I wanted things to end well. I didn't... Sorry."
He drops the subject.
"Breeze does most of the work,” he continues. “I’m mostly the scribe. She suggested giving her a gift, but... What do I know about what a child might like? I kept trying to think of something, but... What would be the point, if I was just gonna give it to her once and then she'd go in the Citadel? How would that help her? So I figured... Breeze seemed to know a lot, so I bought her lunch and... went to buy a notebook, sat down and said ‘Okay Fairy, start talking’. You know the rest."
"Well, keep doing that, and I might just sing for you again." She grins, and kisses Mihai again. The thunder is getting closer. "Uh. I think we have enough time for another round."
Her suggestion is quite obvious.
"One way to find out,” replies Mihai.

The door immediately opens, and in comes Mihai. He shuts it and walks up toward Konrad.
"You were right. We have to."
