Konrad is just so pleased with himself when he talks and people listen to him, and it shows. Not too pleased, though. They are in a precarious situation, and he would like to not have to kill these monks as a direct consequence for Kira's death.

"I'd like to see my room, Avalon."

He gets up to follow Avalon to see his room, and then visits Zelk with Steve later.

"Oh, wonderful!" The young black mage follows his group, a big triumphant smile on his face. He can't wait to tell Zelk.

Master Avalan enters the south wing with the others in tow, closes the sliding door connecting the hallway to the dinner area, and leads the group to the room at the very end of the hallway.

"I hope you won't mind sleeping on futons," he tells them. "They're in the closet over there; just unroll them, and you're good to go."

"Thank you!" replies Breeze with a buoyant attitude.

"Of course," continues the master, who bows and then leaves the room. Zelk passes by him, and stops dead in her track when she notices the man in rags, sitting on the floor.

"...He came with you?" she asks, bewildered.

"Just get in here," Konrad hisses, pulling her into the room and closing the doors.

"The walls are paper thin," he mutters barely above a whisper. "It's like they built it out of a stack of cards. Now, I hope that kick meant you had a plan."

"Why wouldn't he? Friends sleep in the same room together all the time," Steve says matter-of-factly, as if that's the most obvious thing in the world. After Zelk enters the room he'll say, "How's the knucklehead fishing coming? Figure out a plan yet?"

Zelk Freeron looks back and forth between Steve and Konrad.

"No," she declares, flatly. "In any case, nothing that would spare the monks from this conflict."

She examines Conan for a few seconds, who has so far only glanced at her, and then returns her attention on Konrad.

"I was going to ask you to cast Scan on him," she reveals, as she crosses her arms. "If he wants our protection, I'll need some answers."

The man in rags doesn't appear fazed by the demand. "Fair enough," he says. "Cast your spell."

Zelk's expression is as serious as ever, prompting Konrad with her silver eyes to do as she asks, while Breeze observes this whole scene from Steve's shoulder.

"Oh! Maybe we'll learn why I can't sense his thoughts!" she exclaims out loud.

"That's a shame. I guess we'll have to do this the hard way." Although there is a twinge of regret in his voice, Konrad doesn't appear to be broken up over this.

His eyes will first dart towards Breeze, regarding her with a new coldness. "A man's thoughts are private. I hope you haven't tried this new trick on any of your fellow adjunct members."

"Perhaps the artifact and Conan are the same. But we need to be sure. So I hope this is worth the time we're losing on reaching Kira and the Lorinthian guards." He casts the waste of mana on Conan, preferring other immediate uses for his reserves.

While Konrad is doing that, Steve sits down on the floor out of the way. (To the left of Conan and the right of Zelk, out of the way but still between them.)

"I can't actually read your thoughts, silly!" retorts the fairy, amused.

"Perhaps the artifact and Conan are the same. But we need to be sure. So I hope this is worth the time we're losing on reaching Kira and the Lorinthian guards."

"Right, right," says Zelk to Konrad. "Just do it please."

Fedler and Mihai exit their room, and they see Fredrick, Naomi, and Adam walking towards the end of the hallway.

"What's happening?" asks the hunter.

"Lieutenant Freeron went to get Konrad, but she's taking too long," replies Naomi.

"We're going to check on her," specifies Fredrick. "Coming?"

"Yeah," says Fedler.

Five other people enter the room just as Konrad is casting the spell on Conan.

Konrad's sense of urgency leaves him for a moment, replaced with shock. It's just like they said...he's an "imitation"... "How is this possible? How did you put it last time, Steve? 'One impossible object'?"

He recovers and turns to Zelk with the same urgency, but with less apprehension than before - with more conviction and sureness of the course of action he's chosen - to notice the five new guests in the room. "We have what we've been looking for. I have your answers, but we are not in the time or place to talk about it."

"Trust me. This will have to wait."

Just as Zelk is getting ready to add to Mihai's protest, Konrad's facial expression freezes.

Konrad only:

"Aaaarrgh!" grunts Konrad, as if he had just received a deep massage. "Oh, that's good! I didn't think that's what a human body felt like. Better than what I could have imagined."

He starts to jump up and down under the confused gaze of the other people in the room, until he suddenly stops and rubs his hands together instead, happy.

"So, you wanted to know about mister Conan, right? Let me tell you."

He then explains in short sentences what the Scan spell revealed.

Mihai listens to Snicker's explanation. Blinks a few times. Then just lets out a short sigh - "So that's it.". He then walks up to Conan and sits down in front of him - "What's your story, Conan?"

Conan, who is still a little taken aback by Konrad's sudden change of behavior, nevertheless replies to Mihai and Steve with a calm voice, "My 'story' continues with me leaving this island without explaining myself to any of you."

"Not the talkative sort, is he?" comments Snicker.

"Wait," interrupts Fredrick. "Konrad made a deal?

"Sure he did."

"In exchange of what?" asks Adam, his eyes fixed on the red mage.

"That's between me and him," continues Snicker, a big smile on his face. He turns towards Breeze. "Hey there!"

The fairy is completely confused.

"Konrad? Are you okay?" she says, worried.

"Oh, don't worry, it will last only for 3 more minutes," explains the unknown entity. "I'm Snicker, and in exchange for my help, Konrad is letting me borrow his body for a few minutes."

"Oh..."

"If that's the way you feel about it Conan then don't worry about it. But if you ever want to tell us we'll be happy to listen."

To everyone he says, "That still leaves the Lorinthians and Kira. What should we do, if anything, about them? I don't think they'll just let us walk away without some kind of trouble."

"Kira is up to Konrad. I don't think she'll dare make a move on all of us unless he initiates. As for the Lorinthians, if they see that Conan is with us - if he's with us - they might back off. Taking on this party plus an inhumanly strong man by just their lonesome has to seem like suicide. And it would be."

He pauses, then adds. - "Also, i'm not sure these Monks are defenseless."

"These are Lorinth agents," states an irritated Zelk, who doesn't even flinch at the mention of Kira being Konrad's nemesis. "They're probably special forces, which means they're more resourceful than you might think. And there's no way I am going to let them leave this island alive, not with what they know." She glances at Conan. "I doubt I can make him come with us, but the knowledge of his existence has to be contained."

"Maybe I could help," interjects Snicker, between two push-ups. He stands up, and proudly declares, "I know where everyone in this building is, what they think, and what they're doing. I can tell you everything; for a price, of course."
