1st adventure: the Fey one

Breeze pouts again now that Konrad reprimanded her, but she starts to smile when he shouts out to Fredrick. She interrupts him in the middle of his speech.

"Dude, he can't hear you. That was the whole point behind my little trick. You can still cast spells though. No friendly fire there."

Saemon, who is more than impressed, quickly asks, "You can do that?"

"Why, you can't?" She suddenly turns to Konrad. "Oh, want me to take the bubble down so you can speak to this guy?"

The non-mages of the group are confused.

Mihai is confused - "(wtf?)"

ooc:

The awe is clear in Steve's voice. "She just cast a hereto unknown version of the Silence spell. We shouldn't even be able to hear each other much less speak right now. How long have you known that spell?"

Breeze raises her eyebrows, surprised by Steve's comment.

"Man, you can't do it? That sucks. It's the first time I ever used this trick, but I think I could teach you!"

The other people in your group are quite impressed.

"Must be because she's a fairy."

"Yup, true that."

"You think there are a lot more like her?"

"I hope so."

OOC:

"Thank you for the offer but it's not really my kind of spell." Steve shakes his head in wonder and smiles. "I'd be all over it if I was a Yellow Mage though, believe me on that."

OOC:

Konrad is now even more upset that her friendly fire caused his words to effect a blank. "Her name is Eralda. She's an apprentice bard. Now, would you mind?"

"Fine, fine. Here."

She snaps her fingers, and Fredrick, who had been staring at the group for the last five seconds, speaks up.

"Her trick is finished? Good. Now here's what we want in exchange for our surrender; a written document which states that the eight of us have been promised to serve a sentence under the employment of the Coins, and signed by the three of you."

He points at the party.

"We would also like for the mayor and his son," he looks at Saemon, "-to sign this document as witnesses of this agreement."

He pauses.

"Do we have a deal?"

Saemon, a little surprised by this turn of event, tells the party, "I think the mayor will go for it, and I'm fine with this plan... So, huh, do you agree?"

"I agree." - Mihai says matter of factly.

Steve nods in agreement but says out of the side of his mouth to their spokesman. "Looks like your plan went off without a hitch Mihai. So why do I get the feeling they aren't telling us something."

Konrad shoots a middling surprised, dirty look at Saemon. Neoptism. How quaint. I don't need to belabor the point, do I?


Hmm...that might actually work. Wait, 'sign'? Nonono. But...if they escape the Coins' captivity or employment later, well, it's not really my problem at that point, is it? After some internal monologue, he concedes. "Sure, I'll give it my stamp of approval."

We'll save the questions for when we get up close and personal.

Mihai gives Steve a slight nod.

OOC:

"Good. Just give us a minute."

He talks to one of his colleagues, and they bring out some papers out of a bag. They place it on the rampart and start writing on it.

"Wow, now?" wonders Fedler.

"I guess it's good a time as any," comments Saemon.

Clouds have now fully covered the sky. You can tell it is going to rain soon by the sound of thunder growling into the distance.

"Well, I hope they hurry," adds Breeze. "Water is bad for my wings."

The members of the militia are a lot more relaxed now, and they quietly speak amongst each other. A few minutes pass, and one of the thieves comes down from the rampart with a paper in his hand. He's the one who kept an eye on the party while his group discussed the possibility of surrender. He leaves his sword on the ground, and slowly approaches your group.

"Here," he says while presenting the sheet to you. "You sign it now, and we'll come with you. Peacefully."

The "contract" stipulates all the terms you just discussed, along with a few clauses that would protect the thieves before a court of law in case any of you attempts to go back on you word. You can read it as long as you want, but it is pretty simple, and is mainly designed to keep you from using a loophole.

"Go back on their word" how?

At Konrad's comment, Mihai just chuckles. He takes the piece of paper, looks it over, and signs it.

"Hope the ink is waterproof. Looks like it's gonna rain."

"Forgive us if we don't take your word for it, mate," Konrad says as he signs - it's not really stated as a request.

When their fearless leader(Fredrick) finally comes down, Rory will seize the moment to cross-examine him.

"So, these people, you care about them a lot? Cuz I must be honest, it's touching - well, not really moving per se, but I respect that level of commitment."

Skill:

Steve will also read and sign when handed the parchment.

Saemon signs the document, and the copy given to him. Once this is done, the thief waves back at Fredrick and says,

"They signed it. It's good."

The other three thieves come down from the fort, and surrender their weapons to you.

"That was easy," says Breeze. "It's never this easy in the stories I read." She looks sad, like if she was expecting something more interesting.

"I won't complain," adds Fedler. "That's a lot better than what I had in mind."

To Konrad's interrogation, Fredrick answers, "It's natural to look after your own people."

For Konrad only:

He continues to talk before Konrad can reply.

"Before you tie us up, here's what you wanted. We have to keep our end of the deal after all."

Just as the thunder crackles, Fredrick hands over the journal to Steve. It is the size of an encyclopedia, and there is no title on the cover. The only notable detail about it is the lock which prevents you from opening it.

Mihai glances up at the sky and squints. He's not getting a good feeling as to the sudden grumpy weather.

ooc:

"Trust me, this was anything but easy, fairy." His tone is that of teacher to student, but carries a hint to his preference.

He whistles at the sight of it, disappointed that it didn't fall into his hands. "These oracles sure keep busy, don't they? Don't worry Steve, that's just a whole lot of Elemental energy. I'd say we should count ourselves lucky none of us can open it - or at least, nobody try."


"Alright people, bring out the rope."

"Wait..." - Mihai mutters.

OOC:

He looks back to the party, deadly serious. "Get Silver and the other three now, and untie them. Something's coming."

OOC:

Everyone is a little confused by this serious statement. Fedler and Saemon look at each other.

"Huh, what do you mean?" asks Saemon.

"I thought everything was settled," says Fredrick. "Is this going to be a problem?"

to Fredrick - "Pick up your weapons." - to the party - "Fan out!"

Mihai's weapon hand goes to his sword. His eyes dart at the surroundings.

Well that was odd. "You're absolutely sure?"

"Alright, Mihai, I'm gonna trust you here. Chief, maybe it wouldn't hurt to take a look around, 'mark territory', you feel me?"

Konrad moves to a defensive location with his weapon drawn. What in the hell is this about? Were they had, was Fred just buying time, trying to get in close and muck everything up?

ooc:

Everyone in your group is now terribly confused, but they comply when Konrad gets into position. The thieves take back their weapons while Saemon casts Scan.

"...What?" he mutters. "It's like if someone cast something similar to Scan on this area."

"We're being watched?" says Fedler, her bow ready. "By who?"

"A mage, but I don't recognize this spell."

Breeze flies over to Steve, lands on his shoulder, then holds him by his neck as best as she can.

"I don't feel good."

All of you see something enter the corner of you eye; it's coming from the south, on the path leading up to the fort. At the end of it, you see a female silhouette made of fire walking towards you, and three people behind it. It takes a full minute before they reach your group, and they make no aggressive move against you. Mihai and Konrad recognizes them.

This is your client, with two of her bodyguards and an Aspect of fire. She greets you with a cold smile.

"Hello there," she says with a Lofellian accent. "I see you've done your job admirably."

The weapons of her bodyguards are drawn, and you can see a few drops of blood at the end of their swords.

"Now, could you please give me my journal?"
