"GUYS!! I'm glad I found you so soon...." he paused with a very nervous look on his face. "We may have a breech of security. Two very rough looking adventurers from sent from the guild to find and collect the elf we found in the ruins may be headed there now despite the fact that they already collected the body. One carries a very large great axe, the other is an elf dark mage. theyre not the sort I want to take on alone if it comes to it."

Sethos, still reeling from the impact stops for a moment to take in everything Araiguna's said before looking at him then Caladrius.

"Well, we'd better go and stop" He says, stating the obvious before turning back to Araiguna.

"Which way?"

Fierneceal nods. "I can try, give me a minute." She approaches one of the nearby workstations and touches a hand to the Pyreal surface, frowning in thought. "I... uhm... can't access them remotely, in fact... that can't be right." There's a long pause. "It looks like these were basically mines... uhm, traps. Designed to be placed somewhere a lot of people would be nearby at one point or another, like a well or a town square, buried under the ground, and so a whole town could be converted without ever knowing it. But..." Her voice starts to go flat. "But if they had thousands of these, and even one could convert an entire town..."

"last I saw them they were leaving the coroner with the body over one of their shoulders. I told them to leave town but they acted strangely after that so i decided to run for help"

The realization hits Rory like a train. "Well, Araiguna was the only one converted, right? And we're pretty far down already, so...hopefully our group are the only ones at risk." He paced about, looking at the mine and back at Fierneceal. "You said 'mines'. If we can't do anything to them remotely, can you disarm them manually? With your mind powers?"

Fierneceal is still frowning, searching through whatever it is she's doing. "I... no. They, uhm... wow. They weren't designed to be turned off, or controlled remotely, or... anything really. They were thrown together so quickly, it ..." she freezes.

"What??" Rory shakes his head. "First this Gold Lord considers the reverse transformation redundant, the machines can't control the mines, they can't even be shut off...I may not know a lot about this higher advancement, but I know enough to say that this has to be the sloppiest--or most irresponsible--project I've ever heard of."

After some more pacing, a look crosses his features that seems to indicate another 'train', but still far off. "All we can do is activate them. That's all we have to work with."

Rory raised his hands up. "Hey, hear me out! Can't we move them? We can just gather them all in one place, maybe where Araiguna found the first one. He was the only one affected, remember? Then we just, well...hope that they're all of the same range, or we'd have more to worry about than our own health."

Snarg wipes his mouth off as he caps his waterskin, reattaching it to his pack. "Whelp, I guess we can see if they've made any progress. Maybe we can help them out a bit, yep?" Giving a semi-confident grin, he turns to a console and sticks his tongue out, closing his eyes tightly.

Fierneceal shakes her head firmly. "No. We already don't know which ones are active and which aren't... I'd have to check each one manually, by the way, no way to remotely activate. And second, I would rather die then let an abomination like this... this bioweapon continue to exist."

As you hurry, you manage to make it there before your adventuring friends, but believe you only have a minute or so until they arrive.

Through the ship's systems you find a way to mentally link with someone also connected to the Airship's systems. You learn everything Fier has discovered, including the fact that these 'mines' were intended to be deployed what the logs describe as 'tomorrow', an event you are aware was over 3 centuries ago now. That is why some are activated, and some are not. They were literally in the process of turning them all on when... whatever happened happened.

The devices are not particularly well shielded, but one would expend one's Mana or PSI in very short order destroying them. One could theoretically gather them all up in a spot, as Rory has mentioned, and try to detonate something on them. Also, they are self-powered, and do not require external power sources, also evidenced by their continuing to function properly centuries later.

You brave the Scanner again, and spend some time scouring the nearby region and the town of Marblebush, but find to your relief that the only one affected by them currently is Rory.
