Around The Campfire

There are many times in between adventures, on the road or waiting in a town, when the party is alone and has time to share thoughts on what's going on, more about themselves and their histories, and how they're taking things as they come. Of course, some may still be hesitant or distant, but surely there are some among you who have grown to view their peers with some respect over the last few weeks.

Zeiss satdown near the fire, muffled himself in his blanket and began writing in his journal.

Ashakel was sitting close to the fire, sharpening his blade while the smells of dinner were making him hungry. He eyes were locked on the flames, and was lost in thought.

Snarg is laying flat on his belly, staring in to the fire. He takes several rapid, sharp intakes of breath and then releases it in a long sigh.

"What're you thinkin' about big guy?" Hanuel took a seat next to Ashakel, Dara on watch out of the range of the fire's light.

Gwydo goes about tending the horses. If you listen closely, you can hear him singing... "Far away boys, far away boys. Away from ya now...."

Far Away Boys

Ashakel looked at the mystical Fairy. "I was wondering... What do you think about revenge? If some took someone close to you away... What would you do?"

"That's... a very tough question..."Hanuel turned slightly, gazing in the direction of Dara. "I've only been without Dara a few times, both while with this group, and I never meshed well enough back in Arwic to have anyone I felt truly close to."

"It's a strange thing... Before the Trials, it seemed it was my mission to avenge a man who was most dear to me. But you know what I did at the Trial? I killed myself."

Rory was sitting near Ashakel and Hanuel, within earshot of their conversation. He began poking at the fire, occasionally looking their way.

"What happened? If you don't mind talking about it of course." Hanuel turned back to face Ashakel.

"Funny thing happens. You see, when I was just a little troll, this man, Xzareth, had saved my life. I'm only alive 'cause of him. And then in the trial, it looked like he had done something terrible, of which I will not speak here. And I assisted him in that ordeal in my blind rage and forgot about it.

In the end, it came that he attacked me as well. But I could not kill him. Not him. So I took my own life away. When the great Spirit asked me why did I do it and why did I forgive him, I said that my entire life was a second chance because of him, and that perhaps everyone deserves one. But... But do you think I should give the same chance to those who really killed him, in this life? It seems so, but it's hard to accept that, even after the trial."

"I don't think the trials can ever be as real as our own lives, even when they feel that way. They can't give us all the answers either. They just show us another view of our lives. I don't even know if I could make the same choice I made there if I was presented with the same situation now."

"That's probably true. But only means that it's even harder to make the choice. It seems Dara's better than ever I think, heh, so I guess you did good."

"Heh, well, I can at least say I'm proud of my choice, even if the thought of it still terrifies me."

Rory kept picking at the fire, fidgeting and following their conversation.

"And so you should be. Fear is only there to be conquered.", Ashakel smiled at Hanuel.

"It's difficult to conquer when there's no situation where you'd ever dare try and face it."

"you know Ash that fear is also there to make sure you dont get hurt its a case of knowing when to push past your fears and when to trust them"

"It's dead," he gruffly replied. "Least where I come from. Before we go further with that, I need some clarification: how does trusting your fear apply to being terrified of making a choice?"

"Right now? I'd sure like to know."

"humm .... fear is all about making chooses when you went hunting the other day were you not scared that the boar may injure you or that you may find something bigger than you can handle."
