Around The Campfire

February 10th, between 7-8PM

Rory walks out of his tent and notices Tabran at the fire alone. Taking the opportunity to speak privately, he sits down next to him.

"Hey. So, I have to apologize for getting plastered off that Ogre beer in Al-Korinth. I was way too tired for a drink. Still, most fun I've had in weeks, even if it lasted only five minutes."

"it certainly was interesting thats for sure im just glad i had the mana left to help me get you up stairs you a heavily built guy you know that?"

"I am, aren't I?" he replies, clearly taking pride in the compliment.

"Believe it or not, I remember what we were talking about before I dropped like a rock. You were saying something about troubles, and if I were sober and not trying to get drunk, I would have asked you about it. D'you mind sharing?"

"its nothing really i was trained as a scout an information gather but with this war my mission has changed to a problem solver and im not really trained for that and also with its war im worried about my friend, the ones back at my inn you guys i know can take cair of your selfs but iska, kalakay and plandran there not cut from a fighter cloth"

"I know the feeling, that part about your training. This inn you speak of, is it in Dericost? Or do they allow their Lycans to settle elsewhere during peacetime?"

"well as part of my mission i was to live outside the Dericost and was told to set up base in Rithwic and was given funds to set up how i saw fit that was 7 months now how time has flow-en, lycans dont normal live outside unless there lords need them too or are given there freedom a rear gift that one must earn but i am making it sound bad, but anyway my case is odd i am not a freed one but i am given the freedom to do as i wish but if my lord calls me as sad as it would make me to leave you guys i would go in a heartbeat because my lord needs me"

Rory shrugged indifferently. "It sounds like you have it better than most. I wish I had someone who could call me away in a moment's notice."

"considering the importan of my mission if im called back that means my house is in dire need and i dont want to think of what would be more important that what im trying to do down...

*Beat*
"Well, not really. I didn't mean that the land is dead--even though, sure, some of it is currently in a state of...death, dying, or...un-death? Take your pick, I dunno the details. What I meant was..."

Rory was clearly intending to continue, but couldn't help but flag in hesitation before he continued. He pulled out a bottle of mead. "That is--what I mean... Frell it. My people are gone." He uncaps the bottle and takes a swig. The wafting aroma is a telltale sign of the drink's mediocre content, and smells of caramel.

Wwhat do you mean un-death? if you dont mind me asking?W

"Well, I don't know the specifics, but there's a stretch of land that appears to have 'died' 15 years ago. We call it the Dead Wastes. Nothing lives there. In fact, if you go there, you are guaranteed to die. Maybe it's the land, maybe it's the noxious fumes, nobody really knows."

Rory took another draught from the bottle. "Now, I don't want to alarm anyone," he continued, taking a more severe tone, "but what happened to the land may have a connection to the dead mages accident here, which happened around the same time."

Rory hesitated. "I say that because...I don't know what happened to them."

He stared down the neck of the bottle in a vain attempt to get a glimpse at the bottom from the inside, and took another drink. "Do you remember when yelled at Fierneceal, telling her that I almost died getting to Dereth?"

"yes thou i must say i was a bit lost in that conversation, but maybe we will hear more about your people when we get to Holtberg it seams that this was there first contact with the main land?"

When asked, Rory was bemused. "Was it? I dunno the details. I didn't know we even had contact with Dereth before. I didn't think anybody knew about this place.

"Anyway, I lived in a small village by the ocean shore, and one day we were taken by surprise. I got kidnapped, and ended fightin' on their ship while they were sailin', then something crashed into it. Sea monster, maybe. Next thing I know, I ended up beached in Sho territory, and had to rebuild from the ground up. That was maybe a month before I met you all."

"do you know who raided your village?"

"Not much to go on. We never bothered anybody, and kept to ourselves, and for an isolationist people, we fought off plenty of threats--bandits, wild animals, and the rare pirate invasion. That time, it just seemed like very crazy people came sailing in, nearly crashed when trying to beach their ship. That's it."

"well as much as i would like to keep on chatting i have the next watch so i need to try and get some sleep we will have to talk again the next time we get to rest somewhere."

February 10th, 8-9pm
Rory stayed up a little later that night, finished off his mead and went to sleep.

*Z quiet suddenly appears beside you. You feel quite certain they weren't there a moment ago, but they seem to move extreemly quietly at most times and in the merriment of sharing food drink and tales you easily could have missed their footfalls. They say nothing to you sitting down and helping themselves to a helping of whatever the person on cooking duty had prepared that night. After some time they pull out a notebook full of sketches and begin drawing.*

"I never would have picked you as the artist type Z." Hanuel says, looking over from across the fire.

Hanuel frowns slightly, and stands up, walking over but making sure not to peek uninvited at Z's sketch book. "Don't be like that. If we're stuck together, we might as well try and be friendly, right?"

*Z reaches out snagging a sleeve and pulls you down.*

"Let me pet dara."

*They hold out the sketchbook turned to page 69.*

Hanuel grins, and Dara walks over, already in its four-legged form. "Dara's always been more outgoing that I have." Dara plops down in front of Z and looks at them expectantly.
