Arch, I think I've found a good candidate species. I think I could see myself living comfortably as an Ullian. Of course, "with great power".

I was just curious what people would say, though admittedly picking Human is actually quite a bit of cheating isn't it, since as I've tried to express before, Earth is a true paradise in Star Trek and you can do literally any job you want within reason as a career choice... yeah.
I'd imagine myself in more of a Miles O'Brien DS9-era position honestly. That's not exactly living it nice in paradise. Heck, I think I live nicer in reality than he did on that station.

Normally when there's an obvious piece of gear or something else happens I'll change it. Latest addition is the warpaint from the battle, which he's actually sticking with right now for reasons.

Arch, quick question, I'm having trouble trying to interpret the benefits of this feat: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Strength_of_a_Warrior_(3.5e_Feat)

Would you say that the first time I take it, the DEX mod is replaced by the STR/CON, or the STR/CON mod stacks with the DEX mod? Also, the feat's 2nd rank benefit states the appropriate modifier not chosen (say I take STR first, then CON)can be stacked with the first, are you fine with that?

It's quite clear: the first time you take the feat, you lose your DEX mod from AC but adds your STR or CON mod to AC, whichever is higher. It's not replacing, it's taking away DEX and adding the STR or CON. The second time, you now just add whichever stat mod you didn't the first time.

Now, the bad news: that's a homebrew feat.

I'm going to link here a better place to look for feats, Rory. All 3.5 ones are fair game, and it even has a filter search to speed things up. The final saying is from our illustrious gm, as always.

Gwydo, K, Third: would either of you like to join Javan's scifi rpg of awesome? It's just two players currently, and I think he'd prefer if there were at least three.

Thanks Javan, but I already took that feat once a while back when Arch approved it, I just needed some clarification on how exactly it works.

Dammit, you put me in a spot here. Honestly, i don't think any character i could create when you've already seen the ones i've spawned upon the worlds could ever be that interesting. I'm pretty much a one-trick pony when it comes to that, sorry to say (i mean heck, these last few sessions i've been worrying about stopping Hig and Chris from sounding like they're the same person). Snow White narrowly escaped going down the same road probably because he had such a short run, so i just don't feel too confident that you guys won't start feeling sick of my creations if i start mass-producing.

You gotta pretend to be someone else! Hig used to be an apprentice under some dude, but Chris is a Paladin. There's a difference between believing in and acting on the right thing to do, but being part of an order expected to do so changes things. Does Chris regret joining his order? Does he embrace the ideals and worldview of the particular order that he joined? Create some experiences as part of his backstory that shape him into the person he is! What about his family? What were his parents like? Did he get along great with them, or were he and they different? What about his social life? Did Higs have a lot of friends, a close circle, none at all? What did they like doing? Did they get into trouble a lot? What about his mentors and trainers, and his relationships with them?

Why does Chris do the things he does? Why does he react the way he does to situations? How does he think, what's his perspective? Rory charges in without thinking...much, because he relishes opportune conflict and lacks battlefield tact. Ekai(that's the Salarian) tries to steer away from conflict because he doesn't want anyone to die(now that he's learned he can't steer the group away from it, that became wanting to save everyone). Deke...well, he's in a bit of a grind. He studies magic to realize his full potential as an offense caster because he just loves destruction magic. I guess he's a bit like Rory, but he is different in certain aspects, trust me.

Another thing to think about is your PC's opinions of other PCs and his attitude towards them. Why does he have the opinions and attitudes that he does? All this brainstorming will help you shape your PC's personality and worldview, which you can then project through your PC's words and behavior.

Piping in to add to what Rory just said.

Where does Chris' power come from? Was it long hours apprenticed to another Paladin, like a squire to a knight? Or does he literally channel the power of his god through holy prayers, his fighting prowess based on nothing more than divine inspiration and guidance?

OOC Discussion - Page 17 Empty Re: OOC Discussion

So I guess I will ask my combat related question here. Arch, I need your counsel.

I have these two weapons equipped :

  • Jagged Granite Hookblade of the Assassin: 3d4, +4 Material. Does double damage to targets at full health.  Successful attacks leave a DOT.
  • Jagged Granite Hookblade of Wounding: 3d4, +4 Material. Does double damage to targets below half health.  Successful attacks leave a DOT.

At level 6, I took the Two Weapons Fighting and Weapon Finesse feats, which puts me with a Martial-to-Hit of +7 when I dual wield. Of course, the Hookblade of the Assassin is in my main hand so I can attack with it first.

But I also have sneak attack. From what Kolson told me, if I succeed to hit with both hookblades while the enemy is flanked, I should have 3d6 for each one of them, totalling 6d6 of sneak attack.

Let's say I succeed my attack with the Hookblade of the Assassin against an enemy who has full health and who is also flanked. Do I double the damage immediately and add my 3d6 of sneak attack on top of that, or do I roll my sneak attack and double the total? Which formula is correct?

This? (3d4 + 4)*2 +3d6.
Or this? (3d4 + 3d6 + 4)*2.

And what about when I crit in the same circumstances? I am assuming I do double damage when I crit with a hookblade. I would be surprised if I could triple with it.

This? ((3d4 + 4)*2 +3d6)*2.
Or this? ((3d4 + 3d6 + 4)*2)*2.

I hope I was clear enough. Very Happy

And on a side note, do I know how much damage each DOT can do? Or will I learn later when I attack someone?

The Sneak Attack damage is a completely seperate mechanic, so that is not doubled by the Assassin property.  Critical strikes also are a separate mechanic.  So it'd be like this.

2(3d4+4) + 3d6
And on a crit
2(2(3d4+4) + 3d6

In other words the sneak attack is never multiplied.

Also no you will NEVER learn the DoT damage.  EVER!

Thank you for the precision. I will note those formulas in my character sheet.

And I suppose I could do some experiments on someone to learn how much damage my DoT do...

Anyone wants to volunteer?

You are right Javan. Maybe I should hand over my hookblades to someone else for the duration of the experiment. Someone who also has the Two Weapons Fighting feat of course. And the only person who does is my aspect who wouldn't dare to hurt me. So cheers. Razz

I can't see for what reason Advoc would do that, but yeah. It is possible.

Now, question time! Arch, let's say I make a Permanent Binding with my Aspect, would he need to sleep? And let's say I decide to make him read a book to learn how to speak Fey. Since me and Advoc can share our memories, could I make him learn a language while I sleep, do some mind sharing and benefit from what he learned?

Just asking. Razz
