Konrad smiles at the sight of the two of them approaching the baths together in the morning. As she's leaving, he says, "I knew you wouldn't need a wingman."

He catches Mihai's ornery expression, and asks, "What happened, mate?" There's empathy in his voice, as if he might know the problem already. Clearly it might have something to do with Fedler, if his hunch is right.

Steve will begin walking back to his room and will explain on the way. "I'm not sure if they got away or not. I have no idea who did it. And by it I mean the explosion spell woven into a silver coin and placed in my coin purse. If it had gone off it might have killed me and anyone else standing nearby."

"Not to sound like i'm on drugs, but why don't we get cleaned up anyway? If someone tried something that sneaky, they won't be coming after us out in the open. The way we're acting right now is a dead giveaway that we're on to them. Besides, i think they'd probably be able to track me by scent alone right now."

Steve realizes that his purse of gold which he had put on his bedside table last night had moved almost ten centimetres to the left since then.

Konrad just shakes his head when this is confirmed. "Clearly I underestimated whoever wove the spells into the coins. Really, it's just a crass use of such a tactic." He takes a coin out of his pocket and places it on a nightstand in the far corner of the room.

"There, that's mine. To think I was worried that telling anyone might set it off prematurely... Mihai, if you wouldn't mind unloading all of your things, I can take a look at everything myself. We can go to your room next, if we don't find anything."

Here, why don't I take the chief here to your room and look it over with him? You stay here with Steve. I want to be absolutely sure nothing is out of place, and that they didn't simply come into your room last night and hide a coin, like they did with Steve."

The black mage nods at Konrad. "Yeah, good plan. But before you go, let me have the coin. I'll figure out it's detonation key so we can dispose of it later the same way I did with mine."

Detonation key...? There's a slight hesitation before Konrad responds, "Sure, it's all yours."

Mihai is curious about a few things. He'll stick around to see if this coin happens to have the same detonation key as the other one. We may be able to turn this to our advantage if we play our cards right and with a little luck.

Steve examines Konrad's coin, and discovers that the "wavelength" of the activation signal is the same as his own. Had the signal been sent while the two coins were near each other, they would have exploded at the same time.

It is possible for Steve to "hijack" the signal again, but he realizes that since he's not a weaver, and thus unable to change the wavelength of the signal, whoever has the detonator (assuming they're not a mage) still has the capability to activate it. Steve can block any incoming signals if he wishes to (by rolling Concentration at a set interval of time), but it also means he won't be able to use it to his own advantage while doing so; unless he manages to time it adequately.

On a side note, the range of the detonator is unknown.

Steve knows that the strength of the signal is its most important aspect; a weak signal will require less distance between the two devices, and vice versa for a strong signal. He has no idea what strength the magical signals he can produce have; that would require some experimentation with an active device.

In real life, it's not that different from a conventional explosive and its detonator.

Assuming Steve's Concentration skill is lower than 7, Konrad adds, rather concerned, "I'd better hold onto that, Steve."

"In any event, perhaps we should all leave, back to Fedler's place - to discuss support provided for our current job. It would only cause unnecessary, and useless, worrying for her, right Chief?"
