You know, I wasn't a fan of the Jack either but seeing it in play with a house rule or two, I've ultimately decided that my original concern is overblown. It really does play better than it reads and the Verbs do a lot to differentiate and refine each person's shtick. They also include advice on customizing your experience, which is easy because the system is so light, so we found it ultimately succeeds at what we want it to do.

That said, there is literally no reason for a Nano to ever buy Edge in anything other than Intellect. All their "spells" run off of it and not having to pay so much to activate Effort + Spell is a huge advantage over the course of an adventuring day.

If I'm honest, no I'm not. I've been dealing with some rough emotions the past few days involving a lot of anger at an old friend of mine, perhaps a friend no longer. I haven't slept particularly well and I haven't been in the mood to play. Sorry you guys are paying for the mistakes of people you'll never meet but that's life for you.

I'll let you guys know when I'm ready to play again.

I'm feeling rather better so I think we'll be restarting this soon. Once I'm not spazzing out over the live game on Saturday I'll decide when that specifically is.

I think I will have to take skill training in Technology next level, because it would complement my Mechanics and really be appropriate for my character, though mainly allow me to handle technology, droids etc in ways I thought Mechanics would be enough to allow. Building and programming Harley myself is a background reason, and taking pride in the advancements his species has made is a more personal justification.

Depends on how involved you want to be in the process. If you are happy to follow other's schematics, then Mechanics is more than enough. If you want to design every aspect of him then yes, Knowledge (technology) is a great skill to have trained. I'd also suggest the feat Tech Specialist, which lets you customize a variety of tech above and beyond the norm and, if you really want to be the best, Superior Tech. They both require time and credits but let you do extraordinary things to your equipment, droids, and vehicles.

I was thinking of getting Technology to use that knowledge to learn more from digging inside robots, like I couldn't in that 'oh, i can't understand anything' moment I had in the tech lab when they were examining the Aro droid's remains. I think I will have to accept that Vahrran wasn't much interested in technology as he was in following in daddy's footsteps.


I could get Galactic Lore instead, and that would be a huge advantage for us. I could buy buy reading material on the Force - with pictures -  to start roleplaying an outsider's understanding of it.

I've realized that the summary of our visit to the temple is going to be massive. I should probably write one up now as sort of a 'part 1' with a cliffhanger.

Galactic Lore is a great skill, as it also covers planets, homeworlds, sectors of space, galactic history, and the Force. It really covers a little bit of everything a galactic traveler might need.

And finally, the temple visit really turned into a much longer thing than I originally planned. It's what happens when you come up with an idea that has legs.

By the way, guys, i'm very much hoping we resume the live format eventually, but if/when that happens could we switch it to a friday or saturday slot?

My schedule might become significantly tighter in the not-so-distant future.

Previously on Dawn of Defiance...

Mind Tricks

As our heroes continue, they encounter another vision with boundaries. The source of the laughter appears to be a class of children playing with levitation. Only Ominae and Vahrran step through and interact, and as they do, they become different people, respectively Yoda and [drawing a blank, it's that guy who believes in training the other senses along with the Force as opposed to neglecting them], and begin to act like they are who they appear to have changed into.

The two of them briefly continue instructing a class of younglings, and are interrupted in meditation when a girl in the class begins crying out, and the two of them attempt to link with her mind through the Force to discover the source of the problem. In her mind, they break through a swirling typhoon to reach her and comfort her, which the latter continues to do while Yoda fights off the seemingly mindless threat composed of Force energy.

This dispels the illusion. They choose a door that leads to a dark corridor, and press on. After dissonance of time and perception of its passing, they each feel a sense of comfort behind them, something offering respite from their trials and the terror. However they choose to react, it stays with them, until they meet a bright light with a woman approaching, seemingly serene and beckoning. Those who choose not to go out of distrust or wariness are only Jim and Vahrran, who are suddenly alone without the others, and the light disappears.

Each lose perception to the respective darkness or light, and find themselves in different situations: Vahrran and Jim awaken on the side of a volcano with flowing lava, a quite hostile environment, as opposed ot the others who awaken to yet another luncheon in the grass with supposed enemies.

What in the cosmos is going on?! Where have our heroes gone, and will they manage a way to return?

Continued in the appropriate threads. For your curiosity, Vahrran's comforting presence is his mother. No one could actually see what comforts them, just feel it behind them, no matter which way they turn.

I'd guess that Ominae's is his master, but Dake's is thuper thecret. Jim and Korra presumably feel something too, but no one felt like sharing.

I guess Ominae's comforting presence would be kinda scattered. He has a mom, a sis, a departed Master, a couple of classmates, etc.

I mean c'mon, I have a...well, I had a few slave friends in that cartel I was enslaved in. And a grandma. An aunt 'n' uncle or two. My police lieutenant and captain. My partner. My ex-partner, who was promoted. Cyber-Toba, a go-to corporal typically assigned to crowd control and security at the scene of violent crimes in progress(he was a Lorrdian as well, and had a reputation so established that it was commonly informed to initiates and newbies among the local gangs and thugs, that you do not want him to catch you, and if you do, you do not want to lie to him. The general response to the knowledge that one of a gang's members has been caught by Toba is to lay low for a week, and to ditch anyone he might be after.

I hope you like that, Kolson. That should definitely be a thing, at least for a different district far from Vahrran's beat.
