Fourth Adventure 01: To Order or Not To Order

Hearing Zeiss explain the contract and the necessity to sign it, Gwydo followed him back to Crilfu's office

Crilfu looks at the strange barbarian. "Actually I just founded the 113th a little over a week ago. The unit has not engaged in any missions to-date."

He turns and raises an eyebrow at the Elf and his questions. "It is in the contract in writing," he said. "You give notice to your commanding Executor, and your reasons for leaving, and he terminates your contract. The Order is under no contractual obligations to inform you of termination prior to it happening, however that is merely in the worst-case scenario of infiltrators, saboteurs, or uncouths somehow entering the organization. The other 95 percent of the time you will be notified a hearing is commencing and allowed to both be present and give testimony, but not required to do either." He pauses and folds his hands behind his back. "I appreciate your concern for monetary wealth but I have no ballpark to give you. An average for missions that can vary from escorting a convoy to bringing down a military base would be meaningless. For your own affairs, they are in a non-binding way indicative of you being a member of the Order, but as long as your business does not engage in unpleasant activities there will be no problems."
"New types of equipment you may or may not invent are yours and yours alone of course. Naturally you will have to manage the economic field on your own should you choose to attempt to sell them en masse."
"And finally, usually a standard backlash for someone deciding to desert their post is a simple injury followed by a few weeks of recovery. It is only in extreme cases of turn-coat, or villainy, where the target dies."

*Kezrin had followed the others to the Order. She had no intention of stretching her loyalties any further. She stands somewhat away from the group muttering her thoughts to herself.*

To herself but loud enough that anyone within a few feet could hear.

"I cannot, it would be too much. I already went beyond The Circle by joining the Adventurer's Guild, and I only did that so that I could meet this group. No... It would be too much."

Kez was talking to herself. Or himself. Whatever.

"Why don't you just quit the Adventurers Guild? That should resolve your problem, yes?"

"It's just bein' the regula, ain't nothin' odd." Snarg says as he slaps his paw on the contract. "I, Snarg o' Wildpaw, give ya my intent to do ya contract." He releases his paw from the contract. A faint, white magical mist trails from his paw to the contract for a moment before disappearing into nothingness.

He speaks over his shoulder to Kez as he watches the mist disappear. "Then just be quittin' and be doin' this one. Still only one for ya."

"Thank you for answering my questions, Adjudicator. I'll sign."

To Kez: "Yes, Snarg is right Miss Kez. If dividing your loyalty is the problem, then why not quit the Adventurer's Guild? We won't have time for any more Bills anyway, so membership is mostly for appearances at this point."

"Wish i could help you there, Kez."

*Steps forward. Can't help but be disgusted with the nature of this contract thing. After he'd vowed to never go back to this life, no less. A few people he could think of would probably have been so disappointed. He eyes Crilfu almost viciously for a moment.*

"(This had better be good....)"

*Then holds the damn plate and gets it over with... or rather, started.*

"(This starts going south and i'm quitting. I'm definitely quitting.)"

*turns to the Rogue and blinks. She doesn't appear to quite grasp what you've said, but as both Snarg and Kolson weigh in you can see dawning recognition roll across her features.*

"Quit... the Adventurer's Guild..."

*It's quite obvious she had not thought of this before. She stands there a few more moments still muttering to her self.*

"That might work... Then I would still be able to travel with the group, and not have to stretch my loyalties..."

*She quickly turns and walks up to the trio*

"That would be an acceptable compromise. Thank you."

*She turns and bounds out of the office, running full speed to the Adventurer's Guild Hall. She startles several people as she zooms past them occasionally jumping over people in her rush. After a few minutes she returns and reaches out her hand for the tablet.*

"I would like to inform you that, while I understand there isn't time to visit the spacial temple right now, it will quickly become a necessity. I can tell I've been growing stronger and more skilled lately, but Dara, my aspect, has not. I was taught that to allow Dara to manifest it's true strength, I would have to make a sojurn to the Spacial Temple during my travels to face the trials, and though unlike many other aspects, Dara has always been with me, it's strength has not grown."

Hanuel's gaze drifts unconsciously in the direction of the Spacial Temple.

"However, I Hanuel consent to the signing of this document, and the joining of the 113th Adjunct."

Kez said thanks to Zeiss for his suggestion.

"Euh... yeah..."

She was already running out of the building.

The Moarsman considers the Fairy for a long moment. "Alright. Given your special circumstances and the nature of your request, I will grant it... I will have Gremlock informed of your delay. But," he adds a bit seriously, "Do please hurry in your errand."

A looks of pure joy crosses Hanuel's face, genuinely surprised by the pleasant new. "My deepest gratitude Crilfu! Oh, I must go back to the inn to prepare! I would greatly appreciate your company, if you would like. Of course, that offer extends to my companions as well. If possible, I'd like to leave in the morning, and accompany the group of pilgrims already headed there. We could even do it as a show of good-will from the Order and the Adjunct, if you'd like."

"So everyone has signed it?"

Zeiss looked around.

"Okay. And it looks like we can go to the spatial temple before going on our mission. Crilfu, can you tell us how much time it will take us to get there? And before which date must we return to fulfill our mission?"

Crilfu has taken the slab back. "I imagine it's a few days journey on foot to the Spacial Temple from here. Here," he adds and hands Zeiss a small metal coin which looks like it's made from copper. "Your Executor will be in touch sometime over the next several days with details regarding your mission. I have a great deal of work to do myself, so if you will excuse me."

"Yip, yip, guess we're goin' to visit ya temple then." Snarg says to Crilfu. He turns to the rest of the group. "Be gettin' ready for movin' out in the mornin'! Gonna be visitin' the temple - quite a viewin' place if ya like that sorta stuff."

*The business of joining the Order complete, Kerin heads back to her camp just outside tent and proceeds to prepare for traveling the next morning. Afterward she sets her pot on the fire and prepares a simple stew while writing in her journal. Should anyone drop by she gladly shares a portion of the meal with them. Should Snarg or Rory drop by she would hesitantly share with them and make sure to maintain as large a distance as would not seem rude between them.*

Cirlfu had already turned his back when Zeiss said :

"Thank you."

He didn't know what that piece of copper was. He imagined it was some kind of tool to communicate with this Executor. He placed the piece in one of his pockets.

"I'm going in town to get supplies."

Hanuel hurried back to the inn to pack and prepare, excitement evident in every step.

The Guild has apparently turned over all jurisdiction for the incident over to the Naverre authorities which are still looking into it. In the meantime the group has been cleared of all charges, and their payment is finally received. From what you learn, the initial intent was to reward you with the full 20,000g even without obtaining the Heart, but something prevented that and so now you are being paid the originally agreed upon 10,000g.

Snarg bounds up to you, carrying a large amount of something jingling in a sack, and provides you with 714gp from it. "Ya be doin' wit' that what ya want. It's bein' ya booty split."

Rory scouts the outskirts of town for Kezrinthka's tent. As he approaches, he presents his shirt to her.

"The others say you're good at magicking things," he says with a mumble. "Think you can do something with this?"

*Kezrin looks up from her Journal and startles dropping the book and knocking over her stool in her haste. Looking down at the human holding out the shirt from several feet away, she slowly reaches out her hand and grabs it.*

"I will do for you what I can."

*She picks up her journal and moves inside the tent after some time she steps back out. And hands the shirt back to Rory.*

"I have finished."

*The shirt now has +1 to Will save.*

Taking the shirt, Rory could faintly feel the effect on it in his grasp, as if it were reaching out, trying to bolster his mind. He bowed demurely and left, wondering if perhaps he ought to compensate Kez for her skill. Then he remembered the words she spoke while out of her own mind, and decided it was the least that she could do for him. Still, he noticed how she shrank away from him.

As he left her little camp, he changed into the shirt. The effect came over him, but it was just as faint as before. He sighed, and walked back into town.
