February 15th: Assault on Janwall

Fier walks up to Zeiss and claps him on the shoulder and tell him, "You did what needed done, regardless of who would or wouldn't have approved. You've saved a lot of good people. Remember that."

tab takes a sidelong look at Trenaran to see if she is reacting.

Trenaran is staring at Zeiss. "How many people were on that ship?" She asks the question with force behind it.

Fierneceal's reaction surprises Zeiss. He clearly doesn't know how to respond to this, but manages to respond :

"...Thank you..."

Trenaran's question makes him snap out of his confusion.

"I do not know. Maybe Snarg does."

Snarg takes a moment before responding. "... at least 30 on deck and others below."

"You wouldn't care to ask unless you knew what he was talking about," Rory interjected, looking at the Centaur expectantly.

"I'm trying to figure out if the attacks are done or not. But wishful thinking won't help us, so we will assume they will continue coming for now." She turns. "Bring your prisoners if you want, I'm going to go tend to this poor fellow and make sure our other fronts are secure."

"she is right but we still need to talk about this later but for now we have other thinks to take care of."

"Okay... While you do this..."

Zeiss gets on his knees and start to look at the bodies and loot anything of value. He notices the gaze of the others.

"There may be a clue as to who they are. And yes, before anyone asks, everyone will get their share of anything that has value..."

Of the bodies that aren't charred ash or in pieces, you find an identical ring on every single one of them. It is always on the middle finger of the left hand, and attempting to pry it off is a task you fail at with simple force. It will require something much greater to remove, if it's possible at all.

The rings themselves are incredibly simplistic; some sort of heavy, black material you don't quite recognize, with a simple square slab on the top, and no decorations or other adornments whatsoever.

Snarg shakes himself off and collects the rest of his gear. Visiting the Elf he had captured earlier, he performs a quick spell on him after checking his bindings.

Tab hands Zeiss a knife.

"use this we need at lest 1 of them rings"

Pulling out a knife, Rory cuts off the finger of a dead fighter and attempts to procure the ring on it by carving at it.

"What the...? Someone comes look at this. Someone who knows magic preferably..."

Zeiss takes his dagger and tries to cut off the finger, but stops at the last second, thinking he should wait for the advice of an expert in magic. Tabran comes and hands a knife to him.

"...Can you examine it first? I don't want this thing to explode to my face."

Spoiler:

"i can try i dont any mana left so it will have to be a normal check"

Tabran:
After looking over one of the rings for some time you determine it has zero magical properties whatsoever.

Rory:
It is incredibly unpleasant work. Skilled as you are with skinning and hunting, this feels much worse then trying to pry skin or meat off bone. The inside circle of the ring is clinging to the skin there so thoroughly that ultimately all you do is manage to cut the bone of the finger out enough to slide the majority of the finger out, leaving a strip of skin still attached to the inside of the ring. At this angle, though, you can tell that there are small black lines and designs woven into the skin from the ring's inside.

Zeiss notices that Rory managed to get a ring. And without any kind of explosion. He goes to him.

"What the...?"

"Tabran, Snarg, come look at this." Rory shows them the ring and points out the markings. "Know anything about this?"

" im pulling up blank its not magic from what i can tell but from what we have seen there is more to the world that magic, ied say its safe to say that what ever it was theres guys were up to has to do with that ring and stuff still dosnt add up"

Zeiss:
After very long, careful, and hard study, all you can determine from this ring is it is some type of manufacted technology, but it is well beyond anything you've seen. And as Tabran said, devoid of magical components; it is not magitek, it is pure technology.

Kolson examines it with his extensive knowledge of Weaving, but ultimately the result is he determines this ring was not made with Weaving, neither creationist (from nothing) nor designed (with raw materials on hand).

"...Frell."

Zeiss stands up, a look of confusion on his face. He walks a little back in forth. Then says :

"There is no magic in it. None. That ring... is pure technology."

"Let's just grab as many as we can and give them to Baigen the next time we see him. He might be able to show them to someone who knows something."
