I responded over on Google Groups but I'm going to respond here too since I'd like to encourage the use of this forum for D&D related items.

I've looked over your character sheets and there are a few problems I want to address. Please note I'm not yelling, just trying to help out. First, the rogue. Your total mod to INT would be... 4. Bonus is from equipment, materia, special abilities that are permanent, et cetera. A Rogue has a d6 Hit Die, and you have a CON of 13 which is a modifier of +1, which means you start with 7 HP, not 19. Your Initiative, unless you take any Initiative-related feats, is just your DEX bonus, in this case 3. Your AC in leather as a rogue would be 15, not 13 (DEX bonus plus the armor from leather). Also the bonus of a Mite means you get 3 bonus languages, on top of the ones you gain for your INT modifier, so you get to choose a total of 7 languages, not just 3. And most of the mistakes on the Ranger page are of the same type and variety that I just listed. If any of this is confusing or you need more info just ask

Arch, I assume we are using armor check penalties? For when we get to equipment.

Yes, with some variations based on the setting (some materials on the Material Chart, for example, negate check penalties.) However that mostly applies to spellcasting, I tend to ignore the skill check penalty unless I feel it makes sense IE trying to leap across a pit in full plate armor.

Thanks.

When it says Red Mages get +4 to Concentration checks does that mean 4 free ranks in the skill or is that in addition to the skill ranks and CON mod?

Re: Questions For The GM

@Th3Third: First, due to your age and experience with the military I would like to give you one bonus language of your choice, and you automatically gain orcish regardless. Also I rather like the backstory (had some issues in writing at points but I got the intent quite clearly) and that formulates an excellent motivation for a PC in my opinion. I saw no issues with your character sheet either.

Continuing this discussion here.

Alright, thanks, I will mark those languages down. I'll be keeping track of everything on the Google doc, so if you need anything, that's where my sheet will be and will always be updated.

Sorry about the crappy writing, that's not really my forté. If it bothers, any points on what I need to improve would be appreciated and I'll take some time to fix it. Otherwise I'll leave it for now.

I apologize if I missed a response to this in the last thread, but will you allow me to apply the middle-age template to him? Do you also have a starting gold value in mind? I've got some placeholder items on the third sheet, but I remember you saying that you were going to be doing variable amounts of starting gold based on story and other factors.

Are there any specific books you're just plain saying "no" to getting stuff from? e.g. Complete Warrior, Player's Handbook II, Eberron, etc? I know that normally anything third-party is a "check with GM" by default, but I just wanted to see where you stand on the official Wizards stuff.

Alright, thanks for the help. I've updated both character sheets with the all the fixes mentioned here. I'll post them both on the Google groups page unless someone can tell me if it's possible to upload an excel document here. let me know if there is anything else that needs fixing and/or generally more info.

Gwydo's Lugian Paladin

Post by Gwydo on Tue Feb 12, 2013 11:52 am

So far this is what I'm thinking of developing, tell me if it's appropriate:

Lugian paladin on pilgrimage to the Gotrok Rebellion to attempt to re-establish relations with their “lost brothers”. We must bring them back into the fold, expand the Osteth Nation and incorporate the rich deposits of magicite into the wealth of the people. We cannot continue to be at odds with our own.
Potentially from Kara, as it would seem to make sense that the Lithos of the Arm of Kara would be interested in the expansion of available magicite.

Stats:
rolls: 12/14/13/17/18/14 (I can apply them where ever I see fit, not in order: correct?)
Also you had mentioned the elemental affinity. If applicable, I'm going to choose "Life".

Lastly, for reference, should I be looking at the SRD document for Paladin creation and progression or the actual 3.5 D&D player's handbook (or something else)?

Hey arch, I know you don't want to do a voice/video thing for the entire campaign, but what about recording some voice bits for key descriptions during the game? Like, descriptions of major cities or villains?

Alright!

I'm sending my character sheet and background to google groups, because, again, new members can't post external links or emails for 7 days.

Edit: And I just noticed I didn't add my 1st level feat. Will do when I'm given the 'OK' or 'Denied' by GM.

You said feats are on a case-by-case basis, so is Weapon Finesse a feat I can have? Might as well get the extra +1 to hit if I can get it.

I want my barbarian to read and write, but they can't by default. Can I sacrifice a skill point or two to gain that, or what can I do?

d20srd:

"A barbarian may spend 2 skill points to gain the ability to read and write all languages he is able to speak."

You could also just take a level in another class to gain literacy - even fighter.

Yeah, the stats are the only thing I understand for now. I know more or less how combat works since I played Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, and Neverwinter Nights 2.

Still, I wait for Archengeia's aprovement before doing the whole sheet. And I think I will need help for that.

I'm here fore roleplaying after all. king

I'm actually skipping combat, I figure I'll get a handle on it by slogging though the tutorial x times when it comes out.

By "take a level" do you mean multiclass? FYI, I'm starting at level one, need to test the water. And another thing, I'm trying to go for a human proficient in unarmed who relies on brute strength to dispatch his enemies. What do I need to know in regards to the char sheet?

Please forgive me for being new, I'm only just getting into this now, and the sites I have visited don't get into the basics a lot, as if the reader should already have the handbook(which I don't). Can anybody provide a link to a page that lists the equations for #of skill points, hp, including stat modifiers and such?

Re: Questions For The GM

HaBeHa28:

Yes, that's what I mean. For example: you could take a level in fighter at level do and effectively be Barbarian 1 / Fighter 1. This would give you the benefits of both classes at their first level. You can essentially mix-and-match classes this way, but you won't gain access to the higher level stuff in one particular class if you do this. I'm just saying you could do that upon gaining your next level and represent that in-play as your character learning to read. You could carry a book around, ask people to teach him during downtime, etc. I suppose you don't certainly NEED to do that since there's no literal requirement in the rules to do that, but it would make more sense.

For someone proficient in unarmed combat, I would recommend picking up some of the unarmed feats starting with Improved Unarmed Strike, Power Attack (if you're wanting to dish out big damage at penalty to hit), and then something like Improved Grapple OR Weapon Specialization (Unarmed Strike).

I can't post links in this forum, but if you go to d20srd.org you should find the core rules that give all those equations.
